The issue with this for us is Mourinho has stated in his book that the team with the ball is much more likely to make a mistake so he's absolutely fine with us sitting back and waiting for the opponent to give the ball away and then we counter attack. I personally hate the fact that we are probably going to see the majority of our games where we have far less possession than the opponent. I can't remember who (maybe a Norwich player), but a prem player who played against us recently even came out and said it was so different playing us now as we were happy to let them have it whereas previously we would have been hunting them down.

Our problem was always not having creative players in midfield(middle 3rd) Dembele was great but not really creative and so there have been too few.We did buy Ndombele and he is yet to bloom and Lo Celso who has shown some creative talent but we never sorted out how this system, was going to work, going on the front foot and expanding our game out of the middle
The counter attack seems to make most sense right now as our defence was terrible and now its coming together more again. WE do have speedy players who if they find space can do damage quickly and in bunches

I think he is a very good player but does he bring enough to the team?

Whenever I watched him he didn't really offer much off the ball and seemed to go missing alot. Great ability, but considering his age and cost I don't really see it happening.

He has been linked to Chelsea today. I am sure there are other cheaper and younger alternatives, who could offer a bit more.

Poch is a terrible judge of a player.
Absolutely loved Poch but had this discussion with my brother a lot. Very hard to disagree with, he really wasn't a great judge of a player. I would never have been comfortable letting him choose his targets.

Yes look at him, undoubtedly a fantastic talent, but his fitness is embarrassing. When you sign a player, you want the full package. I really hope he knuckles down as he has a lot of ability.

You also can't just throw one name at me.

You're probably right but i believe when both are on top form Coutinho offers more of an attacking impetus. Eriksen was great and Coutinho isn't levels above I just think with his dribbling and trickery he offered that wee bit more.
Definitely has superior dribbling. I'm not convinced his final ball or finishing are better, but he's played in higher tempo systems where things open up more (Barca/Liverpool with Messi, Suarez etc.).

Lovely player to watch but Barca And Bayern struggled to integrate him and Liverpool adjusted their system to accommodate him. I cannot see where he fits in.

I assume we'd do the same

Kane
Son - Coutinho - Willian
def. - Lo Celso

I can't see Coutinho and Lo Celso all in the same line up. To me it would be one or the other where you have Coutinho just now.

Metalhead

But that's a debate for another thread.....

EXCLUDED - Mercato: Arsenal dreams of Coutinho (Barcelona)

Returning to FC Barcelona after a loan to Bayern Munich, Philippe Coutinho strongly interested the Premier League. And Arsenal dreams of the Brazilian prodigy…
The Bayern Munich not dégainera to Philippe Coutinho . The purchase option provided in the Brazilian loan is considered too expensive and the Bavarians have other options in mind for this summer ( Leroy Sané ). Coutinho will therefore find FC Barcelona and his little blaugrana comrades. But the chances of seeing it revive in Catalonia are slim. The leaders want to see him leave, they who are in great need of financial income. And the Premier League remains a very likely destination for Philippe Coutinho .
First discussion with Arsenal
Courted by Chelsea , who would study the possibilities to recover it this summer, Philippe Coutinho would also be on the shelves of Arsenal . The Gunners have even made their arrangements to start the first discussions with his agent, Kia Joorabchian . A complex case for Arsenal , because it is very expensive. But Mikel Arteta dreams of being able to get his hands on Philippe Coutinho and make him his master at playing. After enchanting Liverpool in 2013 and 2018, the Brazilian still enjoys a very good rating in the Premier League.

Coutinho is a limited player if you put him out of the wing. With Son we wouldn’t have to worry about it. But it’s one of the main reasons a hasn’t performed up to his level at Barca and Bayern. With the National team he struggles out in the wing also. If he
Is on the flank he always tries to cut to the
Middle and shoot until he scorers. Wasting a lot of chances and build up. And the longer it takes him to hit the target the more single minded he gets.

A typical arsenal attacker, turns up when he fancies it and is inconsistent. Like us, he’s too expensive for them. His agent is working overtime to get him a move though. I’ll give him that.

I was just thinking, his agent deserves a bonus for all this effort. Seems I can't hit any sport site atm without finding Coutinho linked with yet another club.

Strange time to be hawking him around though really, not like there's much football going on anywhere so it's not like moving will get him any more game time than he's currently getting :)

Maybe it’s because the sums involved are ridiculous and he needs teams to blow their transfer budgets on him before signing anyone else (if they can still afford it afterwards).

Lots turning their nose up at him, but I think he'd instantly become one of our best players. We have very good players but we don't have too many who can score or even create a goal out of nothing. I also think, whether it's Coutinho or not, we could really do with having a set piece specialist in the team.

Given his wage demands probably permanent transfer for Eze with 5 yrs contract would be cheaper than Coutinho loan on 1 year...
