Was watching a video of him and whilst he isn't the most polished with his technique (quite a few heavy touches), a few things stood out.

Everyone has already mentioned his work rate and pressing but he also can get to the ball in small spaces quite quickly, has a real strong will to get it.

But one trait helps him to really work in this Ange system.

He is very decisive with his passing. Not the most technical, but he sees it and plays it.

Far too many of our players hang onto the ball too long and we know Ange doesn't want that, he wants quick forward passes. Gallagher excellent at that.

I'd happily take him but we need to add Archie Gray too.

In a nutshell - CG’s defensive actions/tackles etc in the opposition half are very very high. His attacking output not so stunning.

Fundamentally he’s a player well suited to Poch (and in terms of metrics I’d say Ange as well) but the Chelsea board seem to want a different style, to a) Poch and b) CG’s play style.

They emphasise that last point with a view on Enzo Fernandez and the league cup final. Loads of possession kept, but loads of side to side passes. They contrast that with CG’s recent play and it’s all dynamic, forward passing. More risky but much more direct and always looking to play forwards.

Yeah, I noticed that.

It's also one reason why Palmer's productivity went up as Gallagher was essentially finding him quickly and helping create space for him.

Crazy that I get that he's not the most "attack" minded player, but still managed to get 7G/9A in 50 matches this season. In comparison:
Maddison - 13 goal involvements in 30 matches
Kulusevski - 11 goal involvements in 39 matches
Bentancur - 2 goal involvments in 25 matches
Sarr - 6 goal involvements in 35 matches
Bissouma - 0 goal involvements in 28 matches

But great points, we know he presses well, and he seems to play it fast to get it to the wingers, forwards, CAM that can do the most damage. He has the instincts to follow shots up and hang in the box for the odd goal as well. I do believe Ange saying us getting away from 6s/8s could mean a different looking midfield than most imagine. I personally would like a designated "8" but if the plan is to press and recover/win the ball in the other half than it could be Bentancur in that position for some matches..

I disagree completely - they play different positions.

If we sold Bissouma, and used the money to buy Gallagher - then we have nobody on the roster to play the DM role.

The players we have on the roster for next season that play the same role as Gallagher are Bentancur, Sarr, and Bergvall. If we don't sell those players then we would have 4 players for 1 position - and a big hole in our budget.

If it was down to me I'd have Bentancur and Bergvall playing the deeper role playing the ball out.
And Gallagher and Sarr playing the all action central role.

Bissouma, for me, isn't technical enough for that deeper role or hard working enough for the central one.

And shifting Bissouma and PEH would cover Gallagher's fee so we can spend bigger on the essential attacking positions.

I think you could be right, and might be why Ange has been reluctant to move him there.

Which all goes to my main point - Gallagher can't play there either, and we need an upgrade/competition/more consistency to what we got from Bissouma last year. So, if we sell Hojbjerg and Lo Celso - that is where I think the money should be invested - not in another box-to-box.

Feel like we get him this summer. I'm not convinced but Ange and the club clearly are so we need to back him. At least he's a leader, has the potential to be Ange's Henderson. Not the best player but a fighter and able to keep the ball moving.

Given a lot of our goals come from turnovers in our attacking third this could be a valuable asset. Winning the ball back high up the pitch before counters develop, and keeping the opposition under pressure.

I think with Pochettino leaving and Chelsea are still signing players like Estevao Willian you have to imagine they will need to sell some homegrown players.

Not sure why people think it will be us specifically but probably just educated guess on their parts.

The reality is his statistics are outstanding across a range of areas and he is performing at a level ahead of all of our midfielders and his style of play fits Ange’s like a glove.
