Don't Chelsea need to sell by June 30th to get their finances looking better for the current financial year. Assuming Ange wants Gallaher then there will be some negotiations, doubt Boehly has ever dealt with Levy , he had better ask Fergie for some advice on hip replacement.

I think Gallagher is a good player, but £50m is insanity when there are far more pressing needs in the squad

50 mil for Gallagher sounds absolutely nuts to me even if he is HG.
Also the whole point about him being sold is not just that they need to raise funds it’s also that his contract runs out in 2025. Given that I’m not sure he’s really worth much more then 30-35 mil.

I take the point on the worth of Gallagher.

I personally disagree but understand he seems to split opinion.

But I do completely disagree about more pressing needs.

For me sorting out our midfield is no.1 priority this Summer, whether Gallagher is the answer or not.

He works hard but I don’t get it ether and I struggle to understand how Ange wants to use him. Does he think he can play DM? Because we really don’t need another CM.
Take Gallagher out of the equation for a second and which of our centre midfielders do you think have done enough to be guaranteed starters for next season?

I think we need at least two central midfielders.

Sarr for me is the only one. But I absolutely make allowances for Maddison and Bentancur’s injuries in that equation. Still need options to keep them on their toes and to be honest GLC, Biss and Skipp don’t seem up to it, so fully agree with your assessment.

Even Sarr has dropped off badly recently IMO.

But yeah Maddison, Lolo and Sarr deserve 100% to be in the squad, although all need to up their game.

Beyond that? We need a lot IMO.

I’d start Bentancur and Sarr ahead of Gallagher and we only play one B2B/8 which is Coners primary position.

One has to remember that Bentancur only just came back from an ACL this season. It was pointed out before his return that we likely wouldn’t see the best of him until next season. That is just the nature of those types of injuries. The fact he’s shown it in flashes I find very encouraging tbh and more then I expected. People are far to quick to write him off imo. He was always going to need the season to readjust.

Not only that Sarr needs to carry on getting as many minutes as possible, he has a lot of talent and has been excellent in spells across the season. Consistency is often an issue with young players but he has already proven himself as very useful member of the first team squad.

Not only that we have Bergvall coming who imo is better suited to the 8 role. Not that he will be ready to start but he will be hoping to get first team minutes and that’s three players for one position.

With PEH and likely Gio off that leaves one 6 and one creative 10 unless Ange thinks Donley can play someone part. Even if he can I doubt it will be as Maddison’s immediate understudy.

Gallagher is nether a 6 not a playmaking 10. Those two positions will have to be the priority when looking at midfield. That is on top of a WF, possibly 2, a CF, a LCB and possibly even a FB. Buying a 4th b2b CM who wouldn’t be a particular improvement on our current options in that position just doesn’t make much financial sense to me.

Of course if Ange intends to use Gallagher as a DM then that is a different matter, then it certainly makes more sense on paper but personally I’m far from convinced he can play that position to any strong degree.

I think we give Bentancur a lot of rope to be honest.

At his best he's a Rolls Royce of a midfielder but we don't see that nearly often enough. Yes injuries, but also he gets a lot of injuries.

I had forgotten about Bergvall and that potentially makes it unnecessary for us to get Gallagher but that is also placing a lot of pressure on a teenager.

Either way I still think we need a number 8. Whether that's Gallagher or not I don't know but our midfield is, for me, why our season has fallen apart a bit.

I can only assume they must feel he can occupy the #6 role, since surely we aren't looking for more 'workman-like' 8s. If any type of 8 is being looked at I'd hope for a more creative type.

Gallaghers most productive season was playing off of a striker at Palace so it beggars belief we might be considering him for the 6. I don't feel he has the composure or positional awareness for the role. Additionally, his hard work is one of his strong attributes and you'd be limiting that in the #6 as well.

Tbh I’m surprised how little Bentancur has been injured after he came back from his ACL. Again it’s fairly regular to pick up constant muscle strains as the body readjust to the rigours of playing. The fact the only injury he picked up was from a rather nasty tackle by Cash is again very encouraging. I can’t think of one player who came back from an ACL mid season that didn’t have a stop start readjustment. Imo all the signs re Bentancur are incredibly encouraging.

I think one also need to take into consideration Kulu as well tbh. I’m not at all convinced by him as a 10 and even less convinced by him as a winger in this system. At his best back in Italy he played as a mezzala so I think he could very realistically play as the right centre mid well with some work.

Out of all the three positions in our midfield CM is by far our best stocked and that’s not even thinking about Skipp who we may need to retain due to his club trained status. The only way bringing in another 8 makes sense to me is if we bring in a 6 that can also play 8 or sell one of Bentancur or Sarr. Fact is I think Biss could also play as a slight more defensive oriented 8 given his close control.

Personally I just don’t see how we could fit in another dedicated 8 into the squad especially if we bring in another 10 and 6. Essentially that would make 8 players for 3 positions and that’s forgetting about Kulu and Skipp plus players from the youth team such as Donley, Devine and Hall.

Just to ask as you say we need an 8, who would you start as a 6 next season or understudy Maddison if we sell Gio?
