Spoke to his brother, despite the family being die hard Chel$ki they are royally pissed off with his treatment. He won’t be signing for us, either will see his contract out or both Citeh and Villa have sounded the family out
Never believed he would agree to join us because of he and his family being diehard Chelsea. Has been treated utterly appallingly mind you.

We had similar calls just before Bale returned.

Where football is concerned the word 'never' can sometimes ease it's way right up the chocolate chute.
One of the last times I remember you calling someone out for this was me when I said Conte would never sign for us, havnt done it since but still wish I was right :)

It seems like this one is not happening for us. If we're looking for a high energy / all-action midfielder I'd love for us to look at Quinten Timber from Feyenoord (yes his twin brother plays for Arsenal). He is not quite Gallagher levels of work rate, but he's high intensity, better than Gallagher on the ball (very press resistant) and can play as an 8 on either side. Don't think he'd cost crazy money money either. Had a break-out season last year.

I know we looked at Gallagher but it's the 6 we're weak in. Bissouma is gradually fading away and none of the others have that sit and defend ability.

We need someone with good defensive awareness, mobility and an ability to receive and distribute under pressure

Many of the elite clubs are looking for the same profile- Arsenal, Lpool, United. Players like Rodri are extremely rare. Gray was bought in to mould into that role eventually imo. Not sure we will realistically be able to buy a ready made fit right now.

Can't see why we'd sign another 8 when we have Bentancur, grey, bergval and Sarr all playing there. That's probably the position we have the most depth in

Agree. We need a 6.

Unless we play something like

Gray
Bentancur
Bergvall

Which has a nice balance, but lacks goals.

I don't disagree. But why did Ange want Gallagher? He's an upgrade on Bentancur and Sarr in Ange's system- I think he wants a high intensity box crashing midfielder. Love Bergvall but he's still raw and unproven given his age.
