I’ve gone from not being fussed by him to wanting him in now.

I’m sure this Atlético wrangle gets sorted, but if not and we can somehow bring him in at the price agreed with Atletico, we’ve got the exact profile we reportedly want and a player who now has some adversity to overcome and a point to prove.

What’s not to like.

They've extended the contract for Palmer now to 2033. That's insane. All while they offer Gallagher one until 2026.

Logically that's absolutely right.

However, football is part natural talent, part hard work/application and part emotion.

I cannot see inside Gallagher's head, but my concern is the emotion element - if he's a born and bred die hard Chelsea fan, could he switch that all off in an instant, and play for Spurs with the passion and desire needed? Maybe he could, I hope he could, but I'm not all that convinced.

He's a professional some would say, he'll get paid a serious amount of money, but emotion doesn't follow the rules of logic.

Besides as another poster said, Ange is very keen on players who WANT to come to Spurs, and want to come to Spurs even when not in the UCL.

I don't see this happening, never did and don't want it to. Just my opinion, but that's how I feel

I genuinely don't understand what they are playing at, particularly as they are clearly not stupid people. The financial commitment and risk are completely misaligned

It all becomes a lot easier to understand if you consider that they are in fact stupid people from a footballing persepctive.

I'm a bit surprised Ange seems to really like him, not his ability, but Ange has said numerous times he wants players that WANT to play for spurs. No doubt the player is professional and would give his all, but he's Chelsea through and through, seems like a conflict of interest when you as a manager o lying want players willing to give it 110% on the pitch.
People keep repeating this, but what else is Ange SUPPOSED to say?

The fact is, for a lot of players that are our first choice, we are their second choice club.

What do we do? If we can't or won't accept that for elite players we are not going to be their top choice of where they go. It doesn't mean they won't come to us, it doesn't mean if they do come they won't give their all. It just means they will often want to see if a better option comes along.

Or, do we not bother trying to sign the best possible players available to us and just go for those who see us as their top choice even if that means a reduction in the quality of the playing squad?

Personally, I don't give a toss if we're a players first choice, or their 14th choice. If they improve us and play well, I honestly couldn't care less.

Solanke is an arsenal fan....

But yeah slightly different that Gallager has grown up with Chelsea, but yeah its different for footballers.

didn't know Solanke was an arsenal fan, but I guess it depends on degrees. Some footballers/fans are more fanatical than others.

I find it baffling that people think players worry about club loyalty these days.

If the deal is right for Gallagher then he's not going to say, "yeah but some guys in the shed will be upset".

Yep, I think we can out too much stock into singular sentences.

Ange has said he wants players in early. Of course he does, who wouldn’t? It doesn’t mean he expects all business to be completed In July.

Of course he wants players who
Want to play for us. But does this mean he would be completely opposed to someone who has to weigh up his options first? I’d hope not.

My neighbour was telling me the other day that when him and his wife first met, she couldn't stand him. Once hid in a cupboard at a party to avoid him.

THey're now 25 yrs happily married with 3 kids.

Just sayin' : )

That’s funny as for me and the missus it’s most definitely the other way round :D

I don't necessarily think he'd give a shit about the shed especially since Chelsea have pretty much thrown him out of the door.

offer anyone enough money, and sure they'll sign for anyone - that doesn't mean the signing would work

my concern is whether, he could truly be all in, 100% focussed on THFC, given that the mental component is absolutely critical to sporting success, and can be the difference between success and failure.

maybe he would be fully bought in to THFC, maybe he wouldn't, but its not unreasonable to wonder, given his Chelsea connections and given suggestions that he has been reluctant to come to us

For me that comes down to how dedicated he is to his football career,

If he wants to be successful and have an international career then I’m sure he’d give his all if he chose to join us.

Hasn’t stopped mason mount at United.
He was chelsea through and through and grew up in their academy.
Sure there are plenty of other examples

Chelsea to Man U is not the same as Chelsea to THFC. You do know that, right?

I wasn't suggesting academy players never change clubs and never make successful transfers.
