He must be reluctant to come here imo, either that or we’re offering peanuts like £20m and Chelsea are desperately trying to see who else might take him. Although given Atlético had a bid accepted I’m surprised we didn’t try to match it? That’s why I think that he’s not so keen to come here. If he wanted to play for Ange I doubt he chooses another country over us.

Maybe it still happens on deadline day if Chelsea get desperate. But I think the only way it does is if Gallagher says it’s Spurs or no one which I can’t see happening.

I don’t think Ange will be put off by his reluctance to come here if true though. I don’t think it’s because he would think Spurs is beneath him or because of money, just more that he’s Chelsea through and through I guess?

That runs counter to pretty much everything Ange has said about new recruits. I think it would take a lot of convincing that he wants to be here for all the right reasons.

But my point is the reason as to why he is reluctant is a factor. It’s different from say Neto. I don’t think he would be reluctant because he doesn’t think Spurs is a big enough club for him, or because he prioritises his pay packet first.

He can walk away from the club free next summer though and if/when maresca is sacked this season he may well find himself back in the team.
I'm not sure how many times we've covered this but he would be in the side now under Maresca, he doesn't want rid of Gallagher the board does for financial reasons so whoever comes in as coach that won't change.

the deal they had tho was a PSR double deal where they were buying players from eachother for the same amount.

I think if we actually wanted him and threw 30 mil on the table they would accept it but i just don't think Connor wants to be seen as the bad guy here which if he came to us, all that good faith goes out the window

Do we believe that their bid is 'market value'? Or is it inflated for PSR reasons - and will only be paid by AM if Chelsea pay an equally inflated fee for one of AM's players?

Edit - Pochemon94 got there first!

I don't think the reason matters.

I think when Ange asks: "Why do you want to come to Spurs?" - the answer needs to be a convincing: "Because I love the way you play, I want to be a part of that project, and I think I can help you win things!"

Maybe so, but it seems obvious that he wanted to stay and was forced out so I doubt the Chelsea fans would direct much anger towards him in that case. If he’s rejecting other Prem clubs like Villa or Newcastle say, then maybe. But if we are the only club to make a bid that Chelsea would accept then it may still happen.

If he's available at around 25m-30m I'd imagine there'd be a few clubs interested.

Off the top of my head, Palace, Newcastle, Villa, us, west ham etc..

Really strange situation, maybe he doesn't see himself playing for anyone else but Chelsea in the PL. Or maybe he has higher expectations. Who knows.

I'm sure after this debacle and how Chelsea have treated him he'll be more flexible as the window closes.

this explains the whole saga pretty well.

Amazing, how no matter who owns the club, who manages and who captains, they are the most vile football club in the league.

Stay classy Chelsea, stay classy.

It will be interesting what happens.

Gallagher in & Bissouma out would be a great one for us. But who’ll take Biss?
Why’s that great for us as Bissouma is a Defensive midfielder and Gallagher isn’t. Surely Locatelli would be a better fit if Bissouma was leaving. Locatelli isn’t really a DM either to be honest but I would prefer him to Gallagher!.

I think that some of the thinking is that we're not really looking to play with a DM, hence all of the links to non-DM players

I'm a bit surprised Ange seems to really like him, not his ability, but Ange has said numerous times he wants players that WANT to play for spurs. No doubt the player is professional and would give his all, but he's Chelsea through and through, seems like a conflict of interest when you as a manager o lying want players willing to give it 110% on the pitch.

If we're talking about squad depth i think Gallagher would bring quite a lot. I'd be happy with the signing personally as its not a hugely over inflated English player price.
