Wonder if we'll get one more chance to scratch... Lol

They see it as 2 separate stories do they? Lets see if they are still interested in Felix if Gallagher completely falls through. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Mendes isn't facilitating the whole thing with Athletico as Conor's people are not exactly well versed in dealing with the big boys.

I’m guessing the ship has sailed on this one from our perspective even if it does fall through.

If I was Conor, I think I would stay put now and sign a pre-contract with a new club in January.

I can understand him not wanting to put his career on hold for a year, but there will be plenty of clubs interested in him on a free, even if he has to "sit out" this season.

Yep 100.% this. He can pocket a nice wage and signing fee then too. I’m sure he’d have several European clubs after him in Jan and several more from the PL in the summer.

I don't feel sorry for him as you get what you deserve when you're Chelsea but it speaks loads about them that this is how they treat their own.

Blows my mind that players are still grabbing a quick payday and signing for them

I don't think he ever wanted to leave Chelsea. I still think there's a chance the window closes, he'll still be a Chelsea player, and because Chelsea are so concerned about losing an academy asset for nothing they will offer him a bumper new contract. Then it's a PR win-win for both of them that they're looking after one of their own.

I'd sign for Atletico and have a wonderful life in Madrid without sacrificing my happiness and career development for a year for purely mercenary reasons.

I would too - I honestly think if I had a talented son/daughter who was offered the chance to play in a foreign country at least once (preferably one with some sun and a Mediterranean lifestyle - i'd recommend that they take it). Life is about a mix of experiences and some time away from craziness of our press/this country and learn new language/way of football/pace of life is invaluable. Way better than sitting on a bench somewhere because of some idea of loyalty to you football team. He has been treated poorly - he is their captain ffs.

Sometimes these players seem to only get advice to go after the money, I know their career is short but many of them earn more in a week than the common man earns in several years. I'm sure with good advice they can have best of both worlds when they retire while still not sacrificing life's experiences. Sadly my son isn't into football so no Casa for me lol.

Yeah I can see this argument too. But it might be out of Conor's hands, anyway. If the Madrid deal is off Chelsea might try to push him somewhere else. But why should he rush into such a big decision? It might make sense for him to think about it over the next few months rather than being pressured into a move during the last couple weeks of the window.

But as I mentioned to @Snuzzy this doesn't sound like Conor rejecting the move- unless I've got the story completely wrong.

It sounds like the deal might be off due to machinations of Chelsea, Athletico and Mendes. Nothing to do with Gallagher not wanting to move abroad.

I'm happy to be corrected if I've got the story wrong.

Thing is it probably won’t even come to pass that he spends the year in the reserves.

Chances are Maresca will be gone by the second international break, and with Chelsea floundering they won’t have the leverage to tell a manager not to play someone of Gallagher’s quality.
