Does a contract termination have to be mutually agreed if they decide they'd rather pay him off in full than keep him on for a final year? Any player contract termination that I can think of has been "mutually agreed", but I've always assumed that's because the club has negotiated a pay-off below the remaining contract value.

Imagine if they paid him to leave early and then he excelled for us next season (won't happen but it would be hilarious if it did).
No they can pay the contract up in full and release the registration. I don't see why would any club do that though unless the player was such a complete toe rag that they wanted him as far away from the club as possible, and had no other options?

I think Ange wants both midfielders to press and when one goes the other stays. I think a big issue we have is Bissouma is great in possession but out of it he has no urgency. You see him at times just casually stroll back. Gallagher wouldn't do that, he would sprint back to put out fires. Same with Sarr and Bentancur. The issue with Bentancur is more about fitness after his ACL so that has also caused us problems this season. Hojbjerg is often considered a 6 yet for his hard work he does pass the buck a bit too and is sloppy on the ball. Gallagher is for a sure an upgrade on him.
Honestly, this.

I have to watch Chelsea games because my husband supports them. He works so hard for the team, does all the dirty stuff but does get into great positions, has a few good passes and finishes in him. I think his stats across the season show this too.

He is Chelsea, he is expensive, I get it. But think we are being quite sniffy, he has proved himself in this league and stood up when the others in that team were just waiting to get the manager sacked (insight into a senior first-teamer saying this directly to his personal chef who is a friend of mine).

I still don't see it happening but to think that Ange and the scouts have suddenly lost their minds or are choosing him for some unknown reason is rather short-sighted.

Pretty good analysis of your husband here.

Actually, Mutu and Mendy had their contracts terminated...but I don't think they got any compensation due to the circumstances.

Some people simply won't rate him...rightly or wrongly. However, I suspect you're right that plenty of our fans have bias (conscious or subconscious) against him, and would view him differently if he'd put in the same performances for a different club.

He works very hard and is much smarter presser than anything we have, but i'd start Bentancur and Sarr over him any day.

If he works as hard as KirstyG's husband, then he'd be a great addition.

I have a feeling this happens now that Poch is gone. If Ange wants him then get it done, just don't spend silly money.

Depending on your definition of silly money I think around £30million for an English international (English tax) in the last year of his deal who is proven in the premier league is a fair deal.

It comes down to how high a priority he is for Ange though and how much of the budget is left. It might just be that he was asked specifically about attackers but the fact he’s mentioned attackers in his press conference recently suggest he thinks those positions are the priority over Gallagher. But I might be reading to much into that and thinking 2+2= potato.

£30 is absolutely fine, I'd even take £35m at a push if add-ons etc were involved. £40-50m is silly money IMO.

He's an England international. Poch adores him. Ange allegedly loves him too. We could get him at a very good price. If Cole Palmer hadn't stolen the headlines, Gallagher would be on all the pundits lips regarding England selection. From what I've seen he presses better than anyone we have, covers loads of ground, assists, scores and dominates. I really hope we get him.

What do you mean by "allowed to do this"? If he decides he's staying put there is nothing anyone at Chelsea can do about it.
No they can’t but what I meant is Chelsea could accept all bids making it more difficult for him to stay

Apologies if already mentioned (I've dipped in and out of this thread), but don't Chelski need to sell CG and/or other players before the end of June, to get the PSR benefit in the correct financial year?

What their new coach thinks of him will be more relevant.
