I would be surprised if he was allowed to this, don’t see a way can Chelsea miss out on the positive accounting

They can't stop him though, if he's determined to see out his contract. That's in his power to do that.

The most the club can do is pile pressure on him to leave, tell him he won't play next season, he'll be frozen out etc.

I'm not convinced that Gallagher is a massive set up to what we already have. He's decent but no game changer

I agree about him not being a "massive" set up, but I would prefer to start matches with Gallagher than Hojbjerg or Skipp. The jury is also still out regarding Bissouma, who seems very inconsistent, and even Bentancur, who does not look like the same player since his return from injury. And Sarr is still very young. If Bissouma, Sarr and Bentancur are all playing to their maximum potential, we look great, but how often did that happen last season? In truth, Bissouma and Bentancur were pretty awful for large parts of the season- they were way too easy to play against at times.

I think Gallagher steps straight into our midfield and improves us significantly.

apparently management thinks that there are not many good #6 in the market as per POK's ITK, maybe Bentancur would be used as #6 and we go for a top #8 (not necessarily to be CG though)?
Or Ange doesn't care about 6 or 8 talk and just wants various different options in centre midfield. Provided they do the things he needs of them he believes his system will work.

This is similar to 6 or 8 talk though, in midfield you need someone focus on the defensive work and someone supporting both defence and attack

What do you mean by "allowed to do this"? If he decides he's staying put there is nothing anyone at Chelsea can do about it.

I don't think his system is as linear as this. He typically plays 2 in central midfield and as long as people press where they need too it doesn't matter. He doesn't have 1 person do one thing. I think he wants his system to be more fluid than that. He wants players to recognise how the play unfolds and move into a gap when it opens up. I'm sure he values the importance of winning the ball and Gallagher is good at this. I just don't think he is looking for any type of specialist in one area. He will want us pressing better from the front.

I'm one of those who think we need a top defensive midfielder. I'm just trying to see it from Anges perspective as he has dismissed the 6 and 8 talk. So I think he just wants 2 in midfield who will work well on and off the ball.

Maybe the club think Gallagher's pressing is so good that we can defend from the front and the 6 can be more progressive so for now Biss or Bentancour can do the job?

If you’re Chelsea, you need to do the deal by the end of June for accounting P&S.

If you’re Gallagher, id suspect you want any deal (if any) to be done before the euros (mid June).

Either way, there should be movement soon.

I think this is exactly what the plan is

Bentancur/Bissouma - sitting number 6s
Sarr/Gallagher - pressing number 8s

Completely agree. If there are no top number 6's out there at the moment then I'd go with what you have suggested. Hopefully we can sign Gray and develop him into the top number 6 that we so badly need.

Villa have strong interest in Gallagher, who manager Unai Emery believes can suit their new approach. Tottenham Hotspur are still looking at the 24-year-old, but that is not seen as easy to do as it would have been a year ago.

Doesn't quite make sense why a deal now seems harder to achieve than a year ago when Poch was a huge advocate of Gallagher.

Delaney not really expanding on this unless he's inferring our transfer budget is more heavily weighted elsewhere.

Just sounds like someone is trying to create a bidding war. "Aston Villa want him but they can't afford him".

Blatantly shopping him around. Not the way I'd want to be treated, "Chelsea through and through" or not. But I suppose the club are doing their due diligence with a year remaining and no progress/desire for an extension

I think Ange wants both midfielders to press and when one goes the other stays. I think a big issue we have is Bissouma is great in possession but out of it he has no urgency. You see him at times just casually stroll back. Gallagher wouldn't do that, he would sprint back to put out fires. Same with Sarr and Bentancur. The issue with Bentancur is more about fitness after his ACL so that has also caused us problems this season. Hojbjerg is often considered a 6 yet for his hard work he does pass the buck a bit too and is sloppy on the ball. Gallagher is for a sure an upgrade on him.

Does a contract termination have to be mutually agreed if they decide they'd rather pay him off in full than keep him on for a final year? Any player contract termination that I can think of has been "mutually agreed", but I've always assumed that's because the club has negotiated a pay-off below the remaining contract value.

Imagine if they paid him to leave early and then he excelled for us next season (won't happen but it would be hilarious if it did).

In know Villa are getting linked to a lot of players currently but I'm not convinced they will actually spend that much.
Their wage to turnover ratio is horrendous so not sure even the prospect of Champions League will make them particularly active in the transfer market - certainly big money signings in
