Poor guy. I really hope he pulls through but your body will only give you so many chances and he looks in a very bad way.

Can't believe that it was him in the photo - he's only 47!

Watched a bit of Notts county '91 quarter final today on YouTube. So so tragic. What a waste.

That was an incredible match. Even though Gazza missed 3/4 of the final in '91, his performances on the way were enough to ensure that he totally deserved his medal.

What can one say? Tragic doesn't cover it. Looks so bad that he could well be on his way out this time.

He was only on telly a couple of weeks ago looking sober and healthy.

That Sun article must be wrong.
I hope so. If he has signed for this club in Bournemouth, hopefully it will do him good being able to concentrate on playing football. It's clearly one of the few things in life that brings him pleasure and it really doesn't matter what level it is.

My uncle is an alcoholic. I remember when I saw him five years ago, it was the first time I'd seen him since my aunt divorced him and certain events that left my cousins totally distraught. Whilst I dislike the man and his alcoholism I still had to remember he's still my cousins' father, what I saw that day totally shocked me. In walked a 50 year old man who had no pupals in his eyes and looked about 65 bearing a liver beyond repair, there was literally no turning back.

I'm sorry to say people as much as he is rightly a hero and legend of this club and this country it is time to move on, my reaction to that horrible photo was the same as to when my uncle walked in. The last I heard of my uncle is that he avoided death (he had a year or two left according to the doctors when I last saw him) and he's off the bottle which is good but the damage is already done.

I'll respect anyone who thinks otherwise, it really is truly, truly sad seeing Gazza in that state, he was my hero as child during Euro 96.

I haven't got a subscription to the Sun so it's difficult to know whether it's got any real basis to it.

He was my first footballing hero both for club and country, I was a bit too young to appreciate the likes of hoddle but was 8 years old in 1988 when he joined us, so he was well up there for me, watching him light it up in the early nineties was the stuff of dreams. Its tragic to see him like this. If the worst happens and his illness kills him I will be tying a scarf for him at the lane which is something ive never done for anybody else.

Alcoholism is absolutely terrible. Assuming that the article is true, I still couldn't ever imagine not hoping for the best for him. The alcohol is clearly the tip of the iceberg for him. He obviously has deep rooted issues that the alcohol is only a symptom of. Ultimately, a person takes responsibility for their actions and therefore I am not trying to paint him as a victim but I wouldn't want to have to walk a mile in his shoes.
