Was thinking about our situation regarding Berbatov and Keane whilst watching Bayern Munich V Hertha Berlin and they mentioned Luca Toni was sold by Fiorentina and this season they are in the Champions League.

Then I got thinking about other teams that had sold off there so called star man and improved the next season. Another example would be Athletico Madrid sold Torres last season and again this season are in the Champions League.

Does anybody think that this could happen with Spurs?

Difference in those situations is that we sold our two best strikers to teams we are trying to catch in our league, whereas Fiorentina and Atletico sold to teams outside their leagues. It is unlikely that we'll get Champions league this season, and Man City getting that extra cash really didn't help our cause.

Didn't Everton do the same the season after they sold Rooney.

I certainly don't think that losing Berbatov is anywhere near as catastrophic as some seem to think.

I said in the summer if we could find a player with good technical ability, say 75% of Berbatov's ability and skillset but that would put in 100% effort - which would be more than 25% (sometimes 75%)Berbatov gave us most days, then we could well not suffer at all. With Pavlyuchenko I think we have such a player. And we have 30+ million minimum in the spending kitty, which is rather juicy.

I remember you saying that, thought is was right on then and still do. Berby never really started banging them in until Jan. anyway so we were in such a hole no amount of magic would get us into the champions league.

Also he had enough time to get us into the champions league if he was such a star he would have pushed us through himself, 11th and a distant 5th doesn't cut it. Maybe Pavs will actually score with his head from all those crosses Bentley and Bale will be throwing in there.

Seville did it too, they sold Reyes and Baptista their best players by a mile - the latter having scored 20 goals in 30 games - in consecutive windows, they even got rid of got rid of a semi-succesful coach and got in some other bloke who's name escapes me now and went on to win back-to back UEFA Cups and to qualify for CL.

They replaced their superstars, by the way, with a little heralded forward and promotions from their youth team to howls of protest from fans who couldn't see beyond the ends of their noses.

Indeed, change of opinion Bus-Conductor?

Did he not also say he would donate £50 to SC if we signed corluka after his constant pessimism that he kept playing for city even though we had allegedly signed him?
