I feel sorry for Sky. They spent around 60 hours straight reporting on this and after all that, they haven’t got the story they wanted... I think they might’ve just done enough to tar our name though so fair play to them. I wonder if they’ll spend the next 60 hours reporting the result of all this and getting experts in to talk about that too.

I believe Rudiger simply misheard. I had a feeling straight away Spurs fans would be proved innocent of all the allegations. Not because it doesn’t happen, just because I’ve been going for 39 years and never heard a monkey chant once. I’m relieved of the result either way. It was the ‘who let the yids out’ chant, I’m sure of it.

It probably needs to be said that Rudiger has to be a little careful now though because that’s twice his allegations have proved inconclusive. If this happens again then people may write him off as a liar even if it was a genuine mistake again and that will give the racists a chance to talk shit whenever there is genuine abuse. ‘Well if Rudiger can lie then others can’ etc.

All in all, well handled by Spurs and I’m extremely glad the allegations haven’t been proven.
They had that chubby reporter on SSN talking about it and he was struggling to hide his displeasure that nobody was found guilty. He just about stopped short in saying it had been covered up but that seemed to be the insinuation. He was peddling the line that if nobody was found guilty then why would players report abuse in the future.

If he was any sort of person, he would issue a statement thanking THFC and the Police for their input on this, and then admit he may have mis-heard what he thought was something bad.
However, sadly I doubt this will happen. The same as it didn't happen in Italy too when the same conclusion was reached.

The media and Sky in particular should be ashamed of themselves over the way they have reported this. They’ve been a disgrace in the way they have condemned spurs without any supporting evidence.

For what it’s worth, I think it’s a simple case of Rudiger mishearing something.

The club should be proud of how they’ve handled this incident.

Is impossible to find evidence to contradict his accusation, so not sure why even bother saying it

Now again, I wont be accusing Rudiger of lying because I dont think he lied but most likely misheard. Im quite angry though that the fans were found guilty of racism by the media - trial by media. The same way im not accusing Rudiger of lying i dont think we should be found guilty of something where no evidence proves this.

I hope all the fuckin media ****s apologise.

Yes you can't exactly find contradictory evidence to the claim. What would that be, proof of people shouting the opposite, 'im not shouting racist slurs'. The only way to truly find contradictory evidence is to check everyone in the area, which it seems like they did. But clearly we don't want to start accusing Rudiger of anything, that isn't going to help the situation. Nor am I accusing him of anything; most likely scenario here is that he misheard something. Personally, if I were him i'd probably come out and acknowledge this, and thank everyone who carried out the investigation. Then call for people to still come out when they believe they experience something and not be afraid to do so. What needs to happen is the media to stop jumping on it without evidence for the reaction of it all and their own benefit. That isn't helping anything.

I agree but it’s the current climate everyone is hyper sensitive to race sex and gender issues as you could tell from the match day thread any dissenter gets pounced on on social media and fpotentially fired

But what kind of climate is it where an accusation of racism gets twice as much media coverage as an instance of actual racism at the same match?
I'm refering to the Chelsea fan who WAS actually charged.
Most people you speak to aren't even aware Chelsea had an incident, only that we might have. Swept that under the carpet.

Great post. I also thought it was that chant. But Rudiger implied someone did the monkey impersonation which would have been seen

The media will not apologise, they won't intentionally do something that puts themselves in a bad light i.e. admit they were wrong.

What's more likely is that they will probably spin it and keep up the pretence that something probably did happen as it's more entertaining.

exactly-we, as a club, got slaughtered over this in the press and the only arrest for racism on the day was a Chelsea fan.

A Chelsea fan being done for racism isn't even news.
This hit the headlines because it was a live match, where it was reported to the referee and the protocol was followed to make announcements to the crowd.
I think it was the first time that's ever happened in the PL.

I don't think he was saying he saw someone doing that but he was doing that to explain the noise he heard, the problem with doing that is that anybody watching would think he saw someone doing that particularly in light of the recent Rahim Sterling abuse. it's now perfectly clear that he didn't see anything of the kind which if nothing else makes the case for professional footballers being extremely conscious of the consequences of their on field actions.
Having become absolutely clear that nothing of the kind took place it comes down to what he heard, I was there at the time and the anger was palpable, the abuse was almost too strong for this kind of thing, if anything people were too angry to do what he heard almost appoplectic spluttering in some cases. I was troubled about it at the time because of this, and knowing what was actually being shouted, so I think we have to allow for the fact that he was mistaken, it seves no purpose to accuse him of lying.

Posted this on front page story:

End of the day, and I’m really not being flippant here, there are lots of noises in a stadium that could sound like other noises. Obviously relentless usage and gestures is going to be clear but in terms of trial by noise?

It’s like, to use a case closer to home, a load of fans saying “sssssssh” as in shut up and a Spurs fan hearing it as gas noises. Some clubs and supporters obviously do do that, but a Spurs fan is going to more likely interpret that noise as something other than other clubs.

The idea that because a player is black and makes the accusation therefore it is correct is a slippery slope. People quite often hear different things based on circumstance, background, previous experience etc.

Glad the club have seemingly done all they can in this situation and hope this is the end of it on all sides. Don't think Rudiger lied and he should be left alone, and the club should be praised for properly dealing with it all.

It doesn't mean it doesn't exist within our club and I hope we continue to try and root it out left, right and centre.

or misheard something. It’s totally possible in the current climate that he could of thought he heard something so I wouldn’t blame him if that was the case.

There’s no way one voice would of been heard with the noise going on and where Rudiger was stood in the stadium. It would of had to be a group of people chanting for him to be heard. Those in the area were saying “who, who, who let the **** out” was being sung at the time. Maybe he misheard that for monkey noises, it’s not unbelievable if he did.

edit: sorry, just seen you subsequently posted the same thing!
Not buying that at all.
Not sure we have ever sung "who let the yids during a home match ever"
Sung occasionally when arriving at an away ground but that is it.

See it has now been changed from one person who wasn't at game saying, we have a song called that, maybe that was being sung, to it was definitely being sung at the time.
