City would want a winner
City supporter I work with is absolutely convinced that until Arsenal came along Arteta would take over from Pep either this Summer or next. If true that would suggest they are after a long term replacement as opposed to someone who would be there 2 or 3 years and then move on.

That would be perfect for Poch.

I know a Spurs supporter that doesn't rate Kane, it doesn't mean anything what some fan thinks. I don't see Poch at City personally.

I don't know that they would, I think like Barca, they care more about style and philosophy.

If Guardiola goes who else are they looking at?
I think City are more interested in whoever raises the clubs/Abu Dhabi's profile and reputation. They'll just go for whoever is the most successful and famous manager available.

A lot of people in the game seemed to be convinced that Arteta would take over there. I doubt he'd have left City if Pep was going to leave soon and he was in the running for the job. I can't see Poch waiting for the job to come up.

Poch will go to United in the summer.

Not sure how that's comparable to what I said, when Kane is proven to be World Class and Arteta is somewhat of an unknown quantity. I understand fans have varying opinions, but it's come from someone who I know personally so I've got no reason to believe he's talking shite.

I'm not saying Poch will end up there, but my point was more along the lines that I don't necessarily think they'll be looking for a proven winner to take over Pep. When the likes of Fernandinho, Aguero and Silva move on they'll need to go through a bit of a rebuild. I don't think another Pep would guide them through that.

Biesla is like his father, so I'm sure he saw him.

But Jesus and Toni are there too. Its totally to line them up to take over Man U in the summer. They just signed Bruno Fernandez for goodness sake. Ever since he had that lunch with Fergie, this has been nailed on.

He should have been our next Nicholson. Instead he's going to be their next Busby.

We're still just their feeder club.

Forgot about the Fergie lunch. He's a very good manager but he makes some questionable decisions such as the lunch and the book.

If the book was just a biography of Poch, like half of it was, then it would have been perfectly fine. That stuff is really interesting.

But the diary of the season bit... I mean, again, if that had just been the mostly vanilla stuff that it was (morning routine, philosophy, mindset of a manager, watching Game of Thrones etc) then fine. But all the stuff about Eric Dier, Marcus Edwards, the Fergie lunch... some stuff you keep to yourself.

All depends on Woodward and if he's willing to let Poch control the transfers.

Id say its more to do with the pressure and demands that come with the United job, he will be expected to be up there and we know how Poch was when he was first with us, it wasn't the most pleasant viewing. If he is off the pace by Christmas trust me they will be calling for his head, and if he isn't challenging for the title with in 2 seasons they will be calling for his head even more.

I think he’d improve United, and he’d have a better chance to win things given the money he’d be given to spend.

I’ve really been questioning since he left how good a football tactician he is though. Of course, everyone knows he has a really specific style, which fundamentally he sticks to, but it requires really young, energetic players to play it.

Did we just get stale or was he struggling to find solutions to this inflexibility? Or did other managers get smart to what he was doing?

Probably a mixture of the two, but how he gets on in his next job will certainly be interesting.

They were thrilling days, but he changed.
He bought Wanyama, who raised us up a level but was no spring chicken. He was focusing on the short term from then on - Sissoko, Moura, Llorente, Aurier and moaned that Sanchez was so yeung.
Winks was the only youth player to get established in the first team. KWP was treated pooly.

The high press went a long time ago, so if MP is selling a philosophy (and he has no trophies to present) then I seriously don't know what it is any more.

Then he has to explain away his selection of Kane in the final. It was a terrible decision. Was he bullied into it? Because there will be players just as high profile as Kane at the big clubs - can he manage them?

It was the beginning of the end.
That was the semi-final defeat to Man Utd. He pretty much said after that game that we needed to start to ante up.

And what did we do? Sign absolutely bloody no one for a year.

That was the marker right there. Its why he would have walked if we'd won in Madrid.

There is a sense that nothing is working at United- Moyes craggy Glaswegian, van Gaal, Mourinho, Club legend Solskjaer ... Are they really going to give Poch years to rebuild and take the long view? We didn't mind not winning trophies at Spurs because we were all enjoying the CL quality football and could see the improvement, but I'm not sure United Board and fans would wait in the same way...
