CLUB STATEMENT

6151-6.jpg

We can confirm that the Board has this evening asked Martin Jol, Club Manager and Chris Hughton, First Team Coach to stand down from their positions with immediate effect.
We have not taken these decisions lightly or without recognition of the contribution both Martin and Chris have made to the Club.

Chairman Daniel Levy said: “For me, Martin and Chris’ departure is regrettable. Our greatest wish was to see results turn in our favour and for there to be no need for change. We feel honoured that Martin has been manager at our Club, having seen us qualify twice for Europe. Chris has been with us since 1977, bar a three year period, both as player and coach and he has been an excellent ambassador for the Club. They have been professional, popular and respected members of the coaching staff and there will always be a warm welcome for them both at the Lane.”

Martin Jol added: “I can understand the position of the Club in light of the results. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Tottenham Hotspur is a special Club and I want to thank the terrific staff and players. For me the fans were always amazing with their support so I would also like to say thank you – I shall never forget them.

We shall report in due course on new appointments to the coaching staff. In the interim, the First Team will be coached by our current Development Coach, Clive Allen and Alex Inglethorpe, our Youth Team manager.

At this moment I hate Levy and the board.

For the first time in my life I'm ashamed of this club. Bill Nicks treatment, Burkinshaw's, Pat Jennings, hiring Terry Neil and now the treatment of Martin Jol over the last few months shows that this club has always lacked owners with class.

I'm disgusted with the board for not having the balls to turn down the Utd bid for Carrick and then by undermining Jol by going behind his back and talking to Ramos.

People are going on about how Jol deserved to go because he didn't learn from his mistakes, well Levy has done the same thing. He sacked Hoddle too soon - that entire season was a waste where we had to experience Arsenal winning the league at the Lane and what came out of that? Santini, well he was worth the wait and humiliation wasn't he? I'm willing to give Levy one more chance. If Ramos is a failure then as far as I'm concerned it's Levy out.

Stop fucking whining. Something had to give. And, unfortunately, the board make the decisions. So they're not going to fire themselves. We needed change. A clean slate. A new beginning. Unless you fancied riding this rut right into the Championship? I get the feeling some of you would love the new manager to fail. Take your place alongside the persistent MJ bashers.

Kind of dont know what to say, I'm just gutted...was there and was one of the strangest games I've ever been to.....I love the big guy and he loves me.....he will be missed..

Don't know who to blame? The board, well partly, they should have never gone behind his back...the players, they have been sh1t this year, too many of the `big` players especially....Jol? feck knows, probably as it lays on him being he manager....BUT....it's such a slag the whole situation, like alot of people I think, we all wanted him to do well....

Signing out,

Gutted Spurs Fan (for life)

The players have been shite. They can certainly take their fair share of responsibility for the loss of MJ.

Dude, you misquoted me! I saud "shit club" not " "

I don't want he new manager to fail, that is just fucking stupid. I want Jol and at least one player to come out and say how they are disgusted at how he was treated. (Like Ruddock did with Venables). I want the blame to be assigned to the correct people.

The one consolation I take from all this is, that despicable as the behaviour of the Board has been, Jol kept the support of the paying public until the end. Let's hear no more about fickle Spurs fans. Come On You Spurs!!!

There's no danger of blame being misallocated, let me tell you that.

I'm sad tonight.

Jol probably deserved to go after the run of results, however, he was doomed the second the club went behind his back. They should've either sacked him there and then or not gone behind his fucking back in the first place.

Jol is an absolutely loveable man and a mini legend at Spurs. Has there ever been a more popular manager sacked? The fact that, despite how shit we were tonight, thousands of people were singing his name as a 'goodbye we love you' gesture, shows how much a vast vast majority of the fans loved him.

I'm genuinely gutted tonight. The board have handled the whole thing terribly, but to be fair to them, they have put their money where their mouth is for the last few years, so i don't think we can be too hard on them. Although saying that, i'd happily let them sell the club to people that know how to run a football club and not just a business. Levy & co may be great businessmen, but they really are a bit clueless on the football side of things.

And Ramos? If it's true about him coming, i'm not sure how to take it yet. A man who's never managed in the premiership and whose team lost 3-0 to Arsenal last month. A man who's had around ten managerial positions in about 9 seasons. He's coming to a team 3rd bottom and needs to sort things out quickly. How quickly can he do it, considering he's foreign to the whole set up.

I'm so gutted. It probably is the right decision but i love the man so much, i'm just gutted and numb. The boy in my cupboard is really gonna take a beating now.

Here's to Martin Jol

Yet on the TV they said that Jol handed in his resignation? is it the sack or a resignation? or is someone telling porkies? Levy and Kemsley have a lot to answer for!
