Knives were out before AVB replaced Redknapp, they were just being put into someone else.

No one left for Levy to blame though.

Whoever had replaced Redknapp would have got it from the media and some of the fans, some can not let it go and move on.

You have to admit it's only natural though when the new manager comes in and doesn't set the world alight in his first couple of weeks.

Honestly though parklane1 I think you 'over-egg' this thing about the fans not letting go of Redknapp, there's about 3 people on this entire forum that have said they would want him back, should never have been sacked etc etc, and I've certainly not heard anyone around and about the Lane saying that they are pining for him.

Maybe in the throws of a poor performance, but then I never forget the day the team were boo-ed off at half time when they were winning against Sunderland that some bloke was shouting we should never have sacked Christian Gross.

I'd love to see what a Spurs Chat thread would have looked like in 1996.

Probably something like this ;)

couldnt agree more with your post fella.....i used to dread saturdays during that period.
I find more and more spurs fans being just downright ungrateful...And its coming from the younger fans who've only been supporting us for a few years,or the older fans who seem to think they know more about the game than our current manager.
Personally...the last few years have been BLISS compared to that horrific period you mentioned.

Maybe, but i have lots fans around me at the game who have never forgiven AVB for taking over from Redknapp ( as if it is fault), and most of the spurs forums are full of the same opinion.

Oh how different things would have been if the fans bayed for Fergies sacking at any stage through his first season and the club had not stuck by him. One away win all season would have ended his career in these cutthroat days of football management!!

He was close to getting the boot wasn't he but then won the FA Cup or something.

i find it amazing that the 'debate' still goes on, redknapp got himself sacked after the way he conducted himself just before the England appointment. Levy wants someone who is going to grow with the club but redknapps position became untenable, levy is a businessman and there was no way he was going to be bent over a barrel by redknapp.
Its all in the past, the sooner people realise that bleating about it will not bring him back the better!

Indeed, he had just lost the Manchester derby 5-1 and the fans had banners up for the next game saying "Fergie must go"

Yeah, its all very well saying that they were at, or near, the bottom of the table when he arrived, but he still had a really poor first season finishing 11th. his second season they finished 2nd BUT dropped back to 11th by the end of his third season in charge.....a finish that would pretty much result in the sack for any manager of any club these days after a 2nd place the season before.

Just goes to show what might just be achievable should chairmen have the balls to support and back their managers.
