We have one, Adebayour......problem is, can he be relied upon?

In a word no!

Still hope somehow DL can work some magic and shift to make room for someone else, if anyone can Levy can!

I would still like to have a powerhouse option up front. I suspect if we could shift Ade we wouldn't mind paying about £25m, but not sure if they'd sell this late in the window unless for proper silly money, i.e £35m. Also might already consider himself a bit of a big name to be essentially playing second fiddle to Soldado.

I'd like to see us try and hunt out "the next Benteke." In other words, a young forward of the more powerful variety who can play with back to goal and cause defenders problems. Anyone got any ideas? Must be someone out there worth a punt in the £5-10m region?

Dont think we could get Benteke, as we cant guarantee him games, and he isnt going to come to spend time on our bench.

We're not paying 25m for a backup.

And I'll put it this way, Adebayor is a better backup striker than Rose is a starting LB, so we should be focusing on that first.

The way we have spent money this year, we should be able to find at least one more exciting striker as well.

As I said in the hernandez thread when Soldado isnt working we need someone else to come on and change the game and Benteke imo would of created more space for Soldado to drop in

Without a No.10 in the side we need a player who can hold up play and bring midfielder and other players into the game.
We all knew Soldado wouldn't do this, he comes alive in the box, and scores a lot with first time efforts. Playing with him in a 4-3-3 seems pointless.

Benteke is made for that system. Hopefully with Eriksen on board we will start to see more of Soldado but we still need another striker. that can link up play and hold the ball.

If the two wingers are not going to pass to the man in the middle it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference who was there. We have bought him to convert the chances others make, they are not making any. One today, none against Palace, none against Swansea. The creation for him from wide is the problem.

Spurs eye up £28m January bid for Benteke as stubborn Villa look to hold tight again
By Simon Jones

Tottenham Hotspur are looking to make a £28million bid for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke in the January transfer window.

The Belgian, who made an astonishing U-turn in the summer to sign a new contract at Villa Park despite interest from Chelsea and Spurs, could move to London sooner than Villa fans expected.

Red hot: Benteke has attracted the attention of a number of Europe's top clubs after his fine form for Aston Villa

High valuation: Lambert and Villa will look to be stubborn again in January to fend off interest

Benteke put pen to paper on a four-year deal just months ago, but is not expected to see more than a year of that out when clubs come calling again in the summer, but Spurs are looking to get ahead of the game.

Benteke scored 23 goals in his debut Premier League season, and has found the net five times this season in seven appearances.

However, Villa would want £35million if they were to sell in January, with Spurs also looking elsewhere for striking options to fit into their fluid 4-3-3 system.

Up top: Villas-Boas is still looking for more striking options in his fluid 4-3-3 system

Manchester United man Javier Hernandez has been touted as a possible option, though David Moyes is unlikely to sell so soon in January.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is also looking at alternatives in Spain, Italy and Brazil, but much will depend on their position in the Premier League in January, particularly their title credentials.

Clubs in Italy are also looking at 22-year-old Benteke, with Roma and Juventus rumoured to be interested.

Levy will not risk 28 million pounds on him.

its a lot of money, and too much for Benteke IMO. That said I don't necessarily think it would a risk as such. He is a good forward with plenty of talent and there's no reason to assume he won't keep going the way he started the season now he is back from injury.

Either way I think it is irrelevant as he has just signed a new deal and could literally be the one person to keep Villa in the Premiership. There's no way Villa will sell him in January, Summer maybe, but not in January as they would have a tough time getting in a suitable replacement. If they stay up then they may consider selling early in the summer for the right price.

Agree that they are unlikely to sell in January.

If we buy Benteke then we either switch to 2 upfront or have 1 £20m+ striker on the bench each game.

Don't see it happening now.
