Don't see £28m as a risk for Benteke myself. He's top class and would make a huge difference to us. Probably the best striker we could hope to attract.

Either way, there's no way he goes in January. Summer for sure.

Can you imagine if we bought Benteke and Defoe was afforded a game, we could possibly have £84 million sitting on the bench? :wtf:

We just signed a 26 mil striker, can't we just see how he develops before chasing others. Personally, what we need, is a young discovery of our own and I just don't see the point in being lazy and spending another 20 + mil on another striker. The reason Soldado has struggled because we don't play him in enough, our build up play is very sloppy at times. At the moment no striker would be able to flourish in our team.

Villa would never sell in Jan, they're struggling as it is and even if they got a huge sum they'd still find it hard to use it midway through the season to replace what they would have lost. They'd be in relegation trouble if they let him go IMO.

He's obviously awesome, but we should be looking for a different player to him. One that is younger, more cost-effective and could function as a backup and be okay with that. Benteke and Soldado would give us two strikers that want to be the week-in/week-out starters and in a one striker system it just doesn't make sense. A younger option would give us the ability to have him start in the other matches and odd EPL match in place of Soldado.

Agree. The best option at the moment (if reports that he is available for 7m are correct) is Lacina Traore. He is young (23), yet capable of/good enough to be starting when called upon and offers something different to what we already have.

I think we could have Soldado and Benteke no problem.

Villas Boas likes to rotate and Benteke joining us would be a big step up for him anyway.

If they had beaten us on Sunday you do realise they would have gone above us on goal difference? And that Benteke hasn't been available for the last few games because he's been injured. They are not as bad you think mate. They would be weaker, but if they signed someone with half his talent they would still do ok in my opinion.

I still think it's a moot point as we aren't going to spend £30m on him which they would probably ask for.

28 million for Benteke is utterly ridiculous IMHO. Especially considering what we currently lack, and have lacked since AVB took over, is tempo, movement, quick passing and creativity in the final third, not another striker. Benteke will not solve these issues.

When we have good movement and play quick passes (like Erikson and Siggy against Norwich and Paulinho and Soldado against Villa) we're dangerous, but it doesn't happen often enough. This is the way Arsenal try to play for 90 mins every match. They have quick, technically gifted and creative players all over their midfield that create loads of chances for their striker.

Don't see this happening. There are high hopes for Shaq and Kane + Lamela can play through the center.
I see Defoe and Ade gone in the summer and perhaps a striker in their early 20's brought it - the icelandic American playing at PSV for e.g.

Benteke doesn't strike me as a natural forward or footballer for that matter, it seems to come more natural to players like Soldado, both playing the position and the game.

With this mind, I feel those types of players (the Benteke's) will always be prone to becoming ineffectual or just dropping off form.

So, to pay £28 million for him would be an absurd risk... This is of course my onion.

I am not sure why people are so confused about benteke.. He is class... He can score all sorts of goals including long range, box finish, header , volley; he can assist ( Look his pass vs liverpool and UTD last season ) ; his link up play is really one of the underrated traits of him.... An young player who is carrying a midtable club all alone , one of the starters for the belgian side which is currently the most talented squad in national football can't be that bad i am sure !! watch the goal of benteke against west brom last term and i am sure soldado can't score this kind of goals but then again soldado has other traits that benteke hasn't ... But the thing is soldado's trait come with experience , age ... Benteke is only 22 ...

I'd sooner spend that money on fullbacks and centerbacks. I could though see us selling Adebayor and getting another striker. Wr seem to be putting on a nice display to the media about Ade being back to his best ways.

Benetke has proven he can score in the Premier league with crappy service like he gets from Villa. All prices in January are inflated anyway so for the time of year it isn't overpriced. Considering what Liverpool payed for a certain Newcastle player?

yes please. benteke suits our team perfectly and defenders hate playing against him. soldado's a calm finisher but needs it laid on a plate for him, benteke on the otherhand you can just ping the ball into his general direction and he'll get ahold of it, brush defenders aside and make something happen. physical attributes are important in this league and benteke has all of them, should've signed him in the summer but it's not too late.
