Is this a Levy PsyOp? Grind us down into such a state of cognitive dissonance where we're so desperate for a signing we start to think Benteke could actually be *quite* good. Straight out of the CIA's playbook.

Hilarious. If this is the best we can get we may as well throw the towel in now. Imagine being the only cl side to sign a donkey. We would have the most predictable attack ever. Hoof to a past it target man.

How does this differ from the current hoof it to 5ft midget, whose second touch is a sliding tackle

To be fair, signing him won't be much help to match thread regulars in their ongoing quest to become grown ups.

But I suppose it would be fun seeing the assorted tantrums and launching of sticklebricks around the thread.

So far that reason alone, I'm on board.

If we sign him, can you unban BC for a couple of days so I can see his reaction? Thanks.

Please don't shoot me but... at the end of the window and if all else has failed i'd not be against Benteke. While he has been pony for Palace i'd say they're probably not the easiest team to score goals for up front as they play very defensively and often use wingers cutting in, rather reminiscent of us when we had Soldado.

Benteke was great for Villa 5 years ago so there was a player in there once upon a time and i'd rather take a punt on him recapturing some of that form in a more progressive team (which i think we are when compared to Palace... just) than go with nothing, which it seems some people would prefer instead.

I am in. Imagine how funny it would be. Could be a masterstroke by Jose, no one would expect us to do anything with him up top, quietly we go along picking up 1-0 Benteke wins, long ball galore.

Be a shock to the teams in the CL too, I doubt Leipzig will have prepared for the mighty Benteke

I really hate football, this season is going down as the worst one in a long time. LONG time.

Can't believe we didn't take a punt on Samatta, bought today by Villa for £10M from Genk. Scored 32 goals and 6 assists last season, and 3 goals in this season's champions league.

Not a bad shout. Could have done a job as backup striker.

More to the point, we didn’t push for Erling Haaland. Could we really not have competed with Dortmund for him? He looks made for the Premier League and is big, powerful, strong - and a brilliant finisher. Would have thought he would be the perfect Mourinho striker.

That ship has sailed now, and I imagine he will be sold for 3 or 4 times the £20million he just went for in a few years time.

The hat trick of the bench on Saturday probably rams home this point.:(

Dortmund had to accept a buy-out clause in his contract at a reported €60M to get him, something we would never do and rightfully so imo.

But he’s really a great player.

It was a 40m deal, with his dad and his agent pocketing half of that. We don’t do those kind of deals.
