Chelsea ripping Spurs in matchday programme

I have the unfortunate pleasure of being mates with a Chelsea fan at work.....I know. He decided to attend their glamour tie at home to Bate Borisov last night and has this morning sent me a picture from the programme which he found funny.

Is it just me or is this laughably pathetic from Chelsea? Appreciate that this is a fansbet advert but it's still been approved by the club to be put in their matchday programme. It just smacks of desperately trying to reaffirm their "status" as being a bigger club than Spurs. I get the feeling Chelsea are a little insecure these days.

I reminded my mate that the quote is from 2014 when Poch's tenure began and to be fair by the time we got to 2015/16 season we were nearly winning the league whilst they were finishing 10th.

I wouldn't worry about it, it's just banter, the piss take will never die all the time we keep taking offense to people with the creative skills exhibited above.

Doubt it, hence they've put asterisks in his name.

Still pretty classless, but that's the norm for Chelsea.

I did wonder about the asterisks. It makes even more embarrassing if he never actually said the quote.

ok.....
I know you're both right but its just infuriating that we don't have any trophies to refer to when we say this is the best team we've had in a long time. In 10 years time, no one will remember this team but yet we can still remember who scored the winning goal in our pretty awful League Cup winning team (Allan Neilsen)

Pretty innocuous quote. It's just banter.

More embarrassing is the club's widespread marketing of the new Tottenham stadium being the only place in London to watch Champions League this season. When we've had to rely on Wembley and are going to be knocked out before we've even moved in.

That's the club openly trolling other clubs, not a betting company taking out an ad. It's like they want us to be mocked.

Well clearly we were expecting to open the stadium in September, it was just bad luck that it wasn't the case. There was nothing wrong with the PR we put in for this, it was just unfortunate the hiccups we have suffered in terms of the opening of the stadium and also the team under performing in the group stages.

Totally agree. When I first saw the OP I instantly thought of the comparisons to the "only place in London" ads.

Both things are completely true; Spurs are the only London club in the CL and Chelsea have won those trophies. But even when you're on top - especially when you're on top - there's no need to rub it in other people's faces. Let the fans do that.

Hopefully that sort of ad comes back to bite them just like the "mind the gap" stuff did. Here's hoping!

I know what you mean. If we had been in the stadium and not made a hash of the champions league campaign then there would have been nothing wrong with the advertising campaign.
