He hasn’t had a minute of football in December and hasn’t played centre half since November 4th - I think they’ve gone another direction, for whatever reason.
They changed manager on the 8th of November, that probably answers the question.

Played the full 90 for Luton in a 1-0 win at Middlesbrough today.

He needs regular football We need to let him go for a nominal fee but with a big sell-on

Really just want to see him doing well because I’ve had this (apparently irrational) hope that he could be a really awesome option for the USMNT.

If he’s willing and we can’t get in a suitable option like Kim to take Jans place, I’d not be against CCV being an option next season. Seems to be fine defensively even if not the most elegant, and seems to work very hard to improve. If we had Dier, Toby and Sanchez as experienced first choice options, CCV and Tanganga as young options, we’d be quite well stocked at centre back. That said, if we can move him on to somewhere he’ll get first choice game time it’ll be better for his development, but then we’d have to sign someone to take Vertonghen’s spot (or keep Vertonghen for another year).

In general I think we give up on young defenders far too early so I wouldn’t be adverse to keeping him. Our bigger problems are at RB where we need to invest in an Aurier upgrade and move him on, CF where we need a Kane back-up, and at DM. If that means having CBs of Dier, Sanchez, Toby, Tanganga, and CCV. I’d be ok with that.

Personally I would also look to see if KWP can offer something given that the alternative (Aurier) is awful going forward and defending.

If we do have a smaller than usual transfer budget, it would seem odd that we would spend $15m taking a punt on someone currently playing in China (Is there league any good?) compared to someone who has done a good jobs in the Championship.

Speculative punts are fine when the money is there but when we are counting the pennies maybe we should focus more on the priorities (RB, LB, DM and CF).

This kid is only 22 and even if he’s not the most elegant, he’s proven himself in the championship and has only looked at ease and solid playing for us. Along with Tanganga, I don’t see why we don’t keep him this season rather than trying to buy a non HG 4th/ 5th CB. Him and Japhet gives us both great depth and great cover behind the senior 3 at centre back.

Like I think someone said earlier, Poch seemed to write him off after one bad FA cup game against Wycombe Wanderers. I'd hazard that Poch himself at 19 would have struggled against Akinfenwa.

Maybe the player doesn't want that type of role and would rather be playing every week for a lesser squad? Especially at CB where game experience is so important in development.

I don’t think we should sell him for the peanuts that have been quoted either — I think we should give him a bumper contract and get him a loan to a club in the EPL, Bundesliga or a Championship. He was excellent for Luton, and if he is getting consistent minutes in Championship side pushing for promotion, he could have a Ben White-esque season that catapults his value [CCV is younger than Ben White as well].

One of our own and still only 22 after all his loan wanderings.
Looked solid yesterday though not under pressure
and wouldn't be surprised to see him retained.
Has another year on his current contract.
and will only go for peanuts and not on much anyway.
Keep.

Made Dier look awful as well.

I can't see him ever been useful for us, but looks quite likely that he can have a solid career in a top 6-7 league.

An overview of defensive stats that show him compared with other U25 central defenders in the Championship previous season.
Interesting to see how he compare with £50m rated Ben White. Clearly incredibly strong in body duels.

The way he is viewed reminds me a bit of how Kane was before he really broke through.

Honest pro with a ton of loan experience for his age but perceived to be not good enough, I really hope he gets a chance perhaps in the Europa League to come through. His form in Luton's great escape was exceptional. As the stats above suggest.

From what I saw of him in the friendlies he looks solid enough. I don’t think we should jettison him yet. Maybe try for a premier league loan to see if he can fight his way into a team. He’s still really young for a centre back. But the player might want a proper contract somewhere else and not another loan.
