Wilson is basically the perfect bridge to Parrott becoming the backup. He's 28, you give him maybe a 3/4 year contract at signing and hope that by the time he enters that last year or two, you can sell him on at 30 (there will be takers) and have Parrott take over that spot, who will only be 20. This is all said with the hope that Parrott continues to improve and Wilson's knee doesn't explode again.

Wilson is definitely the sensible option, I don't think Watkins would get the game time needed to settle in the PL with us, he would be a very good signing for Palace, Villa or SUTD.

I think Wilson would be a good signing. Financials should be within bounds, leaving enough for a decent RB. Hope this happens.

He has presence, and can put himself about a bit, in addition to decent pace on the counter or a good dart to the near post.

Fingers crossed.

I feel that Callum Wilson is not only the perfect fit for this team, but finally may push Kane to really focus on exhausting energy game when starting rather than focusing on durability. Only towards the end of the quarantine break, did we see flashes of Harry in his prime. This deal has Levy written all over it. While his size isn't ideal for Mourinho, Callum Wilson has Prem experience, is used to being some what of CF/Target Man, and has played in a high energy system. This is a type of player that we aren't used to having since he won't have to adjust to England.

This is an ideal depth signing that gives us the ability to truly compete in cup matches and other comps.

Some Bournemouth fans' take on this one:

(briefly scraped from https://bournemouth-forum.vitalfootball.co.uk/threads/callum-wilson-this-summer.11246/page-7)

Glad to see the back tbh.

Complete waste of space, for whatever reason, last season.
Can't see he is good enough any more for PL...so Coventry ?..about £1 millions a fair price.
Astonished if we're paying Wilson 100k a week, apparently we had to push the boat out to offer fraser 57k. I would be really disappointed to see him lining up for us for the first game of next season, so if some mug of a club are willing to pay us 10m, I would be delighted!
Time to let Callum move on and find someone raw and fresh like Callum was when he signed from Cov. Wilson has been Premier League-ised and has rubbed shoulders with the top stars in the England camp. No way , if just for his ego, will be be prepared to play championship football next season. Such a shame he spent so many games last season wandering around uninterested.
Any club that forks out more than £1 million klebbies for Wilson needs a serious look at themselves.

And...Its no point getting over- emotional over players....they rarely are about fans... performances show us that frequently ..at all clubs .. Ha !

Bitter!

They've just been relegated and aren't going to be speaking very highly of any of their squad. This is the same guy who was being coveted by UTD only a year ago. He has been around the England squad and is proven in the Prem.

He would be a great addition as a back up striker or to work alongside Kane. If Jose wants him and the price is right then it's a no brainer. Jose certainly knows the quality he needs in a striker and I would trust him with a budget over Poch any day of the week.

I don't think that can be used here - he's just had a pretty unproductive season and, whilst he's a scapegoat, he signed a big contract, played a bit rubbish, then they got relegated.

I'm sure their POV can be understood.

Not massively different to how we've spoken about Dier on here (wanted by United, then been pants, etc)

Yet they don't seem so bitter about Ake and he's just been bought by a a very rich club. It's almost as if his bad stats this season are because he's been bad.

Whoscored were actually harsher on him than the Bournemouth fans.

Under weaknesses he has:

Holding on to the ball
Offside awareness
Aerial Duels
Passing
Defensive contribution

Under strengths he has:

Anyone who has followed our pursuit of a backup striker in the last 4 years that thinks Wilson is a disappointing option is divorced from reality. Doubly so considering our current COVID financial restrictions.

But we signed a striker who had just scored 15 goals in a Prem season and was very popular among the fans of that club.

In his thirties at the time and clearly not a tactical fit. Obviously Swansea would take the money and Llorente would be willing to serve as a backup. Wilson is still in his prime years and much more versatile than 33 year old Llorente. As someone said above, he’s the perfect stopgap to let Parrott mature.

But have our fans really been watching him? We all saw him a few weeks ago and he looked far from a tactical fit or suitable stop gap.

It won't be a popular thing to say, but I think most are judging him on his stats from 2018/19 and YT vids of the goals he scored. I think people nailed their colours to the mast and now are a bit surprised to learn how poorly rated he has become by Bournemouth fans and the performances we saw against us this season have become the norm.

According the Cherries forum he's losing his pace and is physically on the decline, so he really doesn't sound like he's in his prime.

my issue with Wilson is that everything else matches up: his age, his relegated club looking to sell, his England international experience, his goal scoring record. It’s his ability - and that is tougher to talk about - that is in question.
But when you turn on the matches King was a lot better. Not just that, Wilson was very good in 2017/2018 but has been declining for a year now. Seems to have lost a step and doesn’t possess the precision or dynamism that a striker his size should have. I really think we can do better and I would be cautious for getting him on the cheap- you usually get what you pay for.

Sometimes a player just gets to a point at which he needs to challenge himself and move to a new club. Maybe for Wilson, that point came at the end of the 2018-19 season? If he moves to Spurs, he will have everything to prove and will be hugely motivated once more.

Especially now that England will have a decent pool of strikers to choose from for the Euro's and World Cup soon. Kane and Rashford are nailed on and Ings seems to be close behind, but he'll be competing for a spot with the likes of Abraham, Calvert-Lewin, possibly Watkins if he gets a move and maybe even tempting Vardy back from retirement. Therefore he'll need to be playing well and taking his chances so we may see a very determined Wilson and fighting to improve.

I'll admit I haven't seen much else to his game other than scoring goals and being clinical in the box but do we think he will be able to play alongside Kane in a starting line up rather than for the last 15 minutes of a game chasing a goal?
