People are obsessed with Jose wanting a target man but how often have we seen Harry holding it up back to goal while others run on? We’re clearly trying to manufacture situations where we can break after winning possession and play the ball into space.

Yeah, Watkins must be the better option - he has posted numbers akin to Che Adams, Marlon King, Jamie Cureton, Ebanks-Blake (x2), Ross McCormack, Andre Grey, Chris Wood and Teemu Pukki - so to think he wouldn't come straight into the Prem and make the same impact as Prem-proven Callum Wilson is absurd.

I think he looks good, but he represents a much bigger risk than Wilson.

Not a target man, only once got more than 10 goals in a season within the prem and at an age where he's likely to be on a downward slide.

He better be cheap, but I'd be disappointed if an expensive scouting network couldn't turn up something better.

Really? We'd be paying (by the sound of it) under £20m for someone that I'd wager has at least 3 very good years in him. I think it would be a smart signing

One thing for sure Wilson knows where the goal is and can do it in EPL straight away. As an understudy for Kane, you can't find much better. If his knees are good now then no problem.

I got on the Ollie Watkins train after the playoff final so this now seems a lesser option.

Overall it would still be a pretty solid move however as long as his knee holds up.

He's a good PL proven striker who can fill a niche role for us. Being backup to Kane isn't an ideal job for an up and coming player new to the league, a more experienced player makes sense IMHO.
We should sign Watkins, tell him he’s the long term replacement for Kane if he continues to develop, and loan him to someone like Villa or a West Brom for the season.

And sign Wilson for this season.

We definitely need another striker but in a day and age where clubs have large scouting networks, access to huge amounts of analytics simply scavenging the relegated teams appears a little lazy.

Seem to work pretty well for the 'lazy' league and European champions.

I still think for all intents and purposes, you’re getting a more complete player (also homegrown) in Josh King. Don’t know the difference in fee but if you watch Bournemouth King is simply the better all around player in every aspect.

Was said 15m, but reckon they'll point to Højbjerg deal and demand similar,. Still cheap. Perfect for us.

Watkins is 24, so when Kane starts to decline in 5 years time, he will be nearly 30.

Not the best long term plan.

That's making the assumption that Kane will still be here in 5 years time. Seems a lot of people are starting to make peace with the fact that we've got Kane for another season or two before he starts to seriously push for a move.

Unless we start winning trophies and challenging for the league again, of course.

With regards to Watkins mentioned above his advantage is that he can play as a WF or inside forward. But this has been his first full season playing as an out and out CF.
I think Wilson represents the pragmatic option - plays lots, scores goals and has plenty of premier leagueexperience. I think this is a good shout. He needs feeding but I would argue with Son and Lucas hopefully doign that he can score plenty or at least have chances to. No idea how much he would cost though. At 28 I would doubt the cherries would want him sold for less than 30 m though or has there been any information on fee sizes in keeping with our budget ?

Season "or two"? I think we're incredibly lucky he isn't already forcing his way out this summer (yet).
