Last Season's thread was interesting, so I figured its time to make a new one for the season ahead.

As a BVB supporter I was excited to see us walk over Gladbach, 4-0 is a great way to start the season for both the team and Tuchel.

Hopefully PeA, Reus and Mhikataryan can kee9 firing all season with the later finally looking like the player he promised to be. With Kagawa pulling the strings I can see this becoming a formidable attack this season.

Excited to see what Ginter, Durm, Leitner, Hoffman, Kampl and Ducksch can do this season too. Exciting prospects to look out for.

Early days though so don't want to get ahead of myself yet.

All other German league fans are welcome to post here, on results, thoughts and young players to look out for.

Lufti I see Weigl as the long term replacement to Bender, but only time will tell how well he develops he is still very young. Any youngsters from Schalke we should look out for this season?

Well, Sane, Goretzka could have a big year if he can stay fit, Geis looks like he's gonna be used as a crucial part of the team. Will be interesting to see how Draxler does as he was missing pretty much all last season, Kolasinac could reclaim his LB spot if he can stay fit, expect to see a little bit more of Platte and Friedrich this year, maybe some Kehrer and Multhaup (who've been called up to the first team squad)

I watched a bit of Bayern, until it became too one-sided. Still, an improvement on last season for Hamburg.

And I watched the first half of Dortmund. They looked as good as they ever were under Klopp. Bundesliga is my favourite league, trumps 'the best league in the world™' in almost every way - certainly helps that the coverage is neutral.

Should be a really interesting season, this one. Bayern have finally heavily embraced a transition to a new look, Wolfsburg are good but surprisingly have not strengthened much and may even yet lose far and away their best player, Dortmund look very sharp and refreshed in their new format, Schalke have the tools to improve substantially as they have a well-balanced squad and now have a decent coach, and don't count out Gladbach from a strong season after the Dortmund loss as they didn't start all that strong last season and Favre has some new players he has to assimilate into his unique tactics.

My surprise team for this season? Hoffenheim. I think they've built a really nice team, even with the loss of Firmino, and I could see them at least making a strong push for a Europa spot. I would kill for HSV to have whoever is in charge of transfer personnel decisions there at Hoffenheim, as they make some very intelligent and astute moves.

My disappointing team? Hamburg will likely be poor again anyway as they've once again yet failed to address critical weaknesses, but I think Mainz will be pretty poor this year. I just don't see much spark to their squad this season, and losing to a BuLi debutant on opening day usually doesn't bode well for early season mentality.

Volland's goal was timed at 9 seconds. Equaling the record. I didn't see the end of it, Spurs were on the other channel, but Lewandowski's goal must have been really late and Neuer saved a penalty.

Then I watched the second half of Hamburg vs Stuttgart and it was more entertaining than any Prem game i've seen so far. 1-2 going into the last ten minutes, Stuttgart a man down as well. HSV come back to score 2 and win. Whole stadium went crazy.

I was at the Signal Iduna Park last year when Bellerabi scored the original record, although I was about 1 minute late so I missed it :grumpy: Glad it's no longer the fastest ever goal in the Bundesliga, or at least not the stand alone fastest.

Agreed on HSV v Stuttgart, was gonna turn it off at around 70 but I thought I'd see it out, glad I did!

Commiserations @not_tenth-again ;)

Never mind, I've been well conditioned by Spurs early season games.

Never underestimate Stuttgart and their ability to snatch a defeat from the jaws of a win.

Half a chance of moving to Germany before the season is out so I'll be following the thread a little closer this time around.

Will be a fascinating tie tonight, before the start of the season I fancied Wolfsburg for second and a title challenge but with the impending departure of De Bruyne I think they'll be in a top 4 battle.

I have no idea how we're going to do under Breitenreiter, it could be anywhere from 2nd - 5th, and it's especially hard to tell when he hasn't worked out his starting 11 yet. Disappointed to see Aogo back in CM, but happy to see Kolasinac at LB and Neustädter at CB where I think he's better than in CM/DM. It's a real shame to see Meyer and Goretzka confined to bench roles though, especially as the system to being used doesn't really allow them to even make a case for the starting lineup. I see it didn't take Sane long to get his place back from Di Santo either :b

We have a relatively good record against the wolves though, so I'm gonna go for a 1-2 win, Sane to get one!

No KdB or Perisic either. Good news for your lot.

Schalke's defending for Dost's goal was very Spurs like! Nobody switched on at the back. I thought Huntelaar was unlucky with his chance, commentator saying he should've done better but I thought Choupo-Moting's ball was a little behind him. Also, that touch by Sane for his chance was criminal. A better touch and he'd have been in with a really good chance.

Schalke have had chances though so still in it I reckon. Vieirinha's a good little player though.

Ouch. Sorry, @Lufti. Kolasinac got proper duped there.

Edit: Just as I type that 3-0. Defending a bit suspect again.

:grumpy:

Kolasinac, Aogo, Huntelaar and Geis have been dreadful. Yet they've all stayed on for 90.

Going to be a long season..

Yeah, they were pretty poor. Meyer and Goretzka were lively as soon as they came on. Should've started really.

Just catching up on the Bayern game. Alaba is now one hell of a player. I hadn't seen much of Douglas Costa before he joined, he's had a good start and has added pace and directness to the team.

He's been fantastic in the first 3 games and in pre-season, looks a great signing and an upgrade on Ribery too in all honesty

Pep has had him on the radar since last year. Saw a lot of him preseason, he was incredibly quick on the ball, low center of gravity and a lot of strength for a quick guy is a lethal combination. A huge upgrade on Ribery, I'm surprised they were the only big team in for Costa.

Can someone tell me how bvb's game went in a small para? Transmission of the season to my country has stalled.

Yup, that's the perfect modern winger. Quick, agile, but with good upper body, core, and thigh strength is a nightmare for defenders - and Costa fits that description to a T. He was absolutely brilliant against my Hamburg in the opener, even being lively when Bayern was a bit nervy for the first 20 minutes or so after opening kickoff. His outside foot cross to Muller for their third goal was the epitome of sublime.

Agreed that it's a bit of a surprise no one else was interested. He wasn't cheap of course, but it's a surprise Man U or Chelsea weren't interested given their own weaknesses at right winger. Strange indeed.

Can't tell you about that BVB game though mate, sorry about that, didn't catch it.
