In his last quotes it sounds like he is closing a chapter with Frank by wishing him all the best, which to me looks like he won’t be coming to us. I could be wrong but just seems like an odd thing to say if there was a potential for him to still join us.

Tbf the world knows he wants United right now, thats hardly a secret. If they agree a deal quickly, he’s going there 100%. Question with this one is whether United dilly dally about and Mbeumo has a change of heart in the meantime or if they simply dont manage to do a deal leaving him with decisions to make.

Maybe we need to leak to reporters that we’re even more relaxed about United’s interest. Like almost comatose. In a near zen-like state of enlightenment.

That will put it up ‘em.

Still think we are helping Brentford out here (as part of Frank coming in) to get Man U to up their bid and pay the money. I’d love him in as a player and have for a couple of years but I think the Man U move is pretty likely for him.

We need to look at the other targets. Personally I only want players that want to come and play for us, not because we are his only choice.

I hear you, but he can hardly say 'yeah would love to work with him again' at the same time

That would be quite genius....and super-cunning Levy-type thing to happen.

Daniel: "If we push United up by another £5 million by getting involved in the bidding - will you lower Frank's buy-out package by an equal amount?"

Lovely-jubbly.

Doesn't really work when he says he doesn't want to move to Spurs!!

It's such a shame, this. I think he'd be about as good a buy as we could make, and the price isn't ridiculous.

I hope we're still pushing, though the mood music would suggest that (for some bizarre reason) he wants to go to Utd.

As for the whole "it's his boyhood club" thing - honestly, I'd see that as quite an odd reason for a professional player to go anywhere. Maybe he wants a change from Frank?

Only lose him to the African cup of nations for 5 weeks. Great player, but if he wants utd, I won't stand in his way if his head has been turned by utd. United is currently an overgrown allotment, needs a good weed out and fertilizer, that takes a few years, plus their garden shed is leaking quite badly .....

Maybe United are offering a lot more in salary and bonuses than Levy's prepared to offer him.

United snapped up Cunha pretty quickly and this seems like an easier deal to do from their POV. I reckon they're waiting on some outgoings or a prioritising some other positions. They've got 3+ forwards on their books that Amorim doesn't want. They need a keeper and RWB for definite.

I wouldn’t expect to come out say I want to play for Thomas again. I think in what he has said he’s trying to respectful to Brentford

A few noises coming out this morning that United still aren't close to the fee Brentford want.

A couple of quotes from Mbeumo:

“I’m someone who needs support and love to give my best performances. I’m really lucky to have someone like Wissa, who always wants the best for me.

“I always want to give 100 per cent but there are some times when I’m feeling down, so having someone like him who will help and push you in the right direction is brilliant to have.”

And:

“I had been at Troyes in the past and, when I came here, it felt the same - it’s a family where everybody can speak to everybody and laugh with everybody," he began.

“Sometimes we do group stuff outside with the team and I think that’s great."

He added: “Every time someone joins us, we try to make them as confident as possible. This is what I felt when I came here as well.”

Mbeumo mentioned head coach Thomas Frank as a reason why the squad was so tight-knit, before discussing how the boss has helped him since he departed the French second division in 2019.

Mbeumo continued: “I have a very good relationship with him. He talks to me a lot - even if it’s a bad moment for me, he’s here to help me to reach the top. He always gives me confidence. I can only thank him.

“He gives me advice, mentally, and on the pitch as well, so it’s great to work with him.”

He added: “I think it’s his closeness with the players. It’s not only me, it’s the whole group who he is very close to. I think it is one of the best things a player could have.”

I can’t help but feel that we have a massive advantage over Utd in this regard - not only because of Frank, but the culture, environment and expectations in general. We also have a larger African and French speaking contingent than Utd do. I know this may sound like a small detail, but I’ve watched and listened to a few of his interviews and think this stuff really matters to him.

He’s also said that his best position is as a winger, so I’m not sure how he fits in at Utd where it sounds like he’d be shoehorned into the team as a 10. Why take a risk when he has the opportunity to play for a manager who knows how to get the best out of him?

Utd will be the favourites if they’re offering far higher wages, but it sounds like we can outpace/outmanoeuvre them and I’m pretty confident he can be won over if we agree a fee and make our pitch.
