To be fair, I think this shows the risk of signing youngsters. Some will hit the ground running, some will take some time to develop, and some just won't pan out due to a number of different reasons.

Two tweets/media always stand out in my mind:
This was a few seasons ago - just before we made moves to sign Gil. He's in the progression circle with top talents like Eze, Kulusevski, Paqueta, Doku, etc. I also love this picture as we ended up with Bentancur, Kulu, and Pape Sarr. I think it just shows that at the time, Gil was one of the top ball carrying prospects in the world and was only 19 or or 20 years old at the time.

Secondly -
"La Liga most dribbles completed in the last 2 seasons (2019-21)

(1). Bryan Gil 122 🥇
(2). Lionel Messi 118 🥈
(3). Luka Modric 117 🥉"

Again, a youngster playing on loan at Eibar was completing more dribbles than Lionel Messi.

Basically as others have said, you win some and you lose some with young talent. Gil can go and have a very successful career in La Liga. He's played under a few different managers here which didn't help his cause, but he never really failed to put in the effort. I just would want to the club to keep chasing highly rated talent no matter what even if a few are considered "flops" for whatever reason.

I've always wondered, what constitutes a 'successful dribble'.

This one is making me wonder whether, as part of the medical, we could borrow Ineos’s wind tunnel to see if players blow over too easily?

I'd absolutely 100% take that if we inserted a hefty sell-on clause in to it.
I’d take €6m and a sell on fee, but not maybe €6m if he does well. You either get a cut price before you see if he does well or you wait and pay market price, you don’t get an option to buy low

Just didn't develop enough physically to cope with the prem. Clearly has talent but unless he was going to develop his core strength to Modric/David Silva/Bernardo Silva levels he really can't survive in the league with his stature.

This was Fabio's first signing wasn't it? Such a weird one for him considering how much he generally prioritises size and power in his targets.
I have a feeling he was high on Fabs list for Juventus as he had him marked as a special talent that he had to get.

Then he just kept that same idea when coming to Spurs despite it being a different situation.

Scouts can get a hard on for players they think are going to be special and will ignore a lot of other factors as if you do manage to sign a future Yamal, Estevao etc then the data/stats/league don't matter too much.

You have to swing with these players at times.

Seems like Spanish midfielders come to England and either struggle or dominate, there's no inbetween.

Can’t say i will be sad to see this guy go at all tbh. Probably one of my least favourite players we’ve had in recent memory for me in terms of what he brought on the pitch. Weak physically, overrated technically by many too and a really weak mentality, never wanted to stay and fight for his place, always begging for loans every pre-season because it was too tough a challenge for him to knuckle down and adapt to the challenge of the PL and competition from PL Tottenham Hotspur level players. I think in the last 5-6 years there hasn’t been an attacking player in our squad I’ve thought possession was more wasted on in the final third than this guy, totally ineffective.

I'm sure there were lots of reports of him refusing loans last season because he wanted to stay and fight for a his place?

Maybe I recall wrongly but I feel there were reports and possibly ITK more than once that he was desperate to leave on loan in different seasons. Like I say maybe I recall wrongly but I’ve definitely been left with the impression that he’s not much of a fighter at all. I’ve been bored of him as a player way longer than most though I think, perhaps I’m being harsh on him, I just think he’s been an absolutely shocking signing and have had very little faith in him coming good for a long time.

We'll probably watch him dominate England for Spain in the next World Cup. Definitely won't happen for him here though.

Think you may be misremebering mate.

He definitely wanted to stay and fight.

However, the season Conte was fired he did come out and say he wanted to be playing more and he'd like more game time around January time.

But you can hardly blame him, he had a half decent performance and Conte just stopped using him.

He always seem to knuckle down in preseason and try to make an impression in friendlies.
