There was that one day in the past summer's window where we had potential permutations of Bruno, GLC, Coutinho and Dybala all on our plate with Eriksen's future still in the balance

Fast forward 4 months plus and Coutinho has gone to Bayern, Dybala didn't happen coz of his image rights, Bruno's ship seemingly sailing away, the one that we eventually got (GLC) seemingly not up the manager's street and reports of Eriksen finally leaving, to Inter.

If only Carlsberg did transfer windows for Tottenham.

It's absolutely classic this. Classic Spurs. And (IMO) Poch's key failing.

The irony is we had a top quality head coach, but who insisted (we think) on not having a DoF.

Poch's recruiting was really bad. He needed someone to help him identify target, but he was too stubborn (is my guess).

What a shame - now look at us...scrabbling for full priced players with limited funds and a new manager in charge of a weak squad.

You say Poch recruitment was bad ...HOW?

The way I see it... Poch covered Levy with the stadium build. He barely rocked the boat, dealt with Wembley seamlessly. He clearly identified early on we needed a painful rebuild once we got into our new stadium ( where every team seems to beat us there now) but hey ho.

Levy failed IMO to really back him in a business way double crossed him... just look at the last window he bought one player Ndombele out right ,Lo Celso was on loan ( he could potentially go back to Betis) Clarke imo wasn't a Poch buy , although it's a sensible purchase Clarke technically is a good player but he wasn't a top priority plus we loaned him straight back. We also failure to move players on Poch wanted gone.

Poch identified players but Levy was/is aways looking for an alternative cheaper option.

Not bothered in the slightest. We’ve got far bigger concerns like DMF and RB and it’s great to hear we’re linked with so many.

Exactly. Especially when you factor in that he would essentially be an Alli backup, it just doesn't make sense.

I know GLC is versatile but I’d like to see him as back up to Alli (assuming that Jose thinks Alli is undroppable) but yeah I agree it’s almost pointless especially as we appear to be on a show string budget

Which DMF have we been linked with? Haven't seen any trustworthy links in that area.

I really want us to build a team around the below players in a Liverpool 433

Lloris (short term)

New RB Toby Sanchez New LB

New DM
Ndombele New CM/Gedson????

New RWF/Eze? Kane Son

I'm not sure where Alli gets in this team let alone BF or GLC so I'm not too gutted if we miss out on him. All 3 could play either side of CM or LWF or RWF but I'm prefer them all centrally and the formation doesn't allow for it. Of the 3 I think GLC is best suited to the formation.

Obviously you need options and to be flexible but I'd rather our marquee signings fit that formation where full backs and DCM are arguably the most important players and also the areas we are weakest and therefore need addressing first.

He's a damn good player and it's a shame he's potentially going to a league competitor, but he isn't really what we need. Rather spend big on a RB, pivot midfielders, or a Kane back-up who can also play WF.

Alli, Lo Celso, Lamela, and maybe Eze (?) can all fill where Fernandes would play.

i agree that we have other priorities and maybe we should spend our limited funds on other players. I absolutely understand your point.

But having Alli, Eze and Lamela should never be a reason not to sign someone who is arguably better than all of them.
We also have a right back (Aurier), but almost everybody would welcome another RB. If there is a chance to upgrade a position we should take it. Regardless of how many players we have in that position. You can always sell the players you already have to raise some money to spend on other positions (RB, DM...)
