Genuinely shocked on that one. Early ITK suggested we would move for him but thats just killed that 1 off. Dias is also far too expensive so god knows who we will go for now.

Ruben Dias signed a new deal with Benfica and now has a one hundred millions euros release clause.

Well, okay. Think we still need an AM but its not nearly as pressing as other needs. Need to improve the back line and DM.

We already have GLC who can't get a game for us ahead of Dele as an attacking midfielder. Why do we need to add another? I'd much rather we upgraded on Lucas/a wide forward. It'd make much more sense.

Agreed

Hasn't Mourinho just said - for a player of his attributes (could be quality, position etc.), we are not spending £85m.

He's possibly even said 'we are not spending £85m on a player'

Either way, it makes sense. There are other positions we need to focus on

Considering where we need to be strengthening and where he plays it's not a surprise, but, I don't want Spurs to fall into the same trap as they have in the past and just let players get comfy.

The more talent the better in my book.

Hopefully some solid links to players coming up soon.

Two quality players for each position is the goal. Not three, ideally.

Agreed, but Fernandes would offer something different with ball at feet that Dele and others do not (only my opinion) With the likelyhood of Eriksen leaving I wouldn't be against Fernandes. No need to settle for what you have, it maybe working now, but when it doesn't Spurs have lacked a plan 'B' for years.

I don't want to sound like a hater of the guy because he's obviously a very good player, as a portuguese i hope one day portuguese clubs can afford to keep players like him for a longer time but his real value is like beetween 40 and 50m, not 70 ou 80 like Sporting Lisbon wants and you guys need at least one great CB, not midfielders.

I think a great CB can make your team much better like when Liverpool signed Van Dijk, it was impressive how a defender had so much impact on a team.

Glad this has happened. GLC can't even get a game, would have been 80mil wasted on what, in my opinion, should be a 6-7th priority. Defensive mid, full backs, centre back and maybe an attacking unit first.

Sounds to me like Mourinho is saying he’s too expensive for us

Agree. This quote may or may not have actually happened. Jose may or may not have told the truth if/when he said it.

I know if I had interest in buying something, I wouldn’t be out in the press talking about how happy I’d be to pay the list price for it.

Personally, I think we need to spend our resources elsewhere.

That said, if I were Jose, and Bruno happened to be my top priority in January, I’d probably deliver the exact same public quote. Early message to Sporting that if they want to do business, their current price target is unrealistic.

It will be Matic and nobody else...sigh

Have a feeling that is the only real likely incoming in January. Short term fix but I can see Mourinho wanting him. Can't say I'd be too upset if we are priced out of a deal for Fernandes.........we have other priorities. Saying that, if no club bites at the price being quoted for him, who knows, Sporting may be open to the price being negotiated for him and obviously working with Mourinho could be a big draw.

I've been warming to the idea of Bruno but I don't think it's a bad idea to walk away at his seemingly ever increasing price. Especially with GLC (who I have high hopes for) struggling for game time as it is. Big money would be better spent on a DM and the defence.

We're potentially losing first team players on free transfers, and DL has already spunked a lot of cash on some talented players this summer too. The squad is also bloated at this point. Don't think fans can be angry if we don't splash £100m plus this window.

We should leave it for now, especially at this price and maybe we can revisit in the summer if things change.
