If we had have done what many people think we should have done, i.e. sit back and bit, manage the game etc like every other manager would probably do, we might have won. But what Ange is saying, is that when we are consistently pressing with intensity (which is within our control), we'll still stop the oppostition. It's not about sitting back, managing the game etc. We need to keep the intensity and pressure, that second half we lacked energy, that's why Brighton suddenly had space, if we had maintained the energy, they would have been wide open.
No one is saying that we should have sat back mate. I commented in the match thread about 10 minutes in that Bentancur hadn't even come out second half. Just a personnel change might have been enough to stop them running through our midfield at will. As it was the changes came too late to even know if it would have made a difference. By the time they came on we had shipped 3.

The thing is we aren’t shocked by this…it doesn’t matter who is in charge or who the players are the end result is ultimately the same…
I have to say I'm pretty shocked - should I be shocked or surprised ? Maybe, Maybe not.

We have now played 3 teams who will finish in the top half and lost them all.
At 2-2 it was obvious we had lost our grip on the game but Ange waited till we were losing until he made changes.
Son should be back after the break . Time for Timo to be benched permanently and any change for Son should be Mikey, and when fit Odobert.
Timo is a nightmare.

Tbh I sort of understand what he means, he can't address in the players minds unless it happens.
I'm sure he meant something a bit different to what he actually said, or how it came across. But it was a bit odd., essentially saying that making subs to try and improve things is irrelevant if the players already on the pitch aren't doing what they should do.

Totally get that but how many times does he let this happen? It’s costing us points and games that could be crucial at the end of the season
Oh I don't think he should ever let it happen, not even once as a teaching moment.

For somebody that says "I want to win every game mate" he sure had a odd way of showing it today and his press conference backs that up.

I said at the beginning of the season that I would rather have Drag with VDV than Romero as he's a better defender and quick and I haven't change my mind . I do find him totally over rated and puts the other defenders under pressure when he's out of position so many times during a game. Having said that in fairness the whole defence needs sorting out, we just go to pieces when put under pressure.
It's interesting that "little O'L "Brighton manage to find some good managers. Potter, De Zerbi and now the new guy and it's not just managers they also seem to find great players to for little money that they sell on for big bucks.
A small club with the right idea and get results.
I said last week when everyone was going overboard about the Utd result, lets wait a few weeks and see how it goes.
A very dissapointing result today especially after a great 1st half but if Ange doesn't learn from the mistakes we make how can the team be expected to.

Okay I agree with this, keep playing and we’d get the rewards. Playing that system though is hard work and requires high energy and mental concentration. Subs need to be better and earlier. Maddison and maybe Bentacur or not 90minute players, and Udogie didn’t look fully fit. We have a better squad that last season. It should be used better during games.

Fair points mate I hope part of Ange’s ‘growth’ he improves this.

Still 5 wins in 6 is good going.

We aren’t the finished article yet.

I realise that mate, but even if we start that second half playing keep ball, the most boring 5 minutes we've witnessed, which we're more than capable of, we quiet the crowd and take any momentum away.

I know game management takes time but I'm starting to yearn for just a bit of pragmatism in certain situations.

When does ideology end and arrogance begin?

Bizarre response to the substitution question - almost “I didn’t make them cos it would have just masked the problems we were having!” - just strange and a tad arrogant for me
True. Brighton were hammered by Chelsea after playing a ridiculously high line with two big slow centre backs. They didn’t play as high this time . All the top coaches change when needed . Emery changed for the Bayern game.
Our best chance this season is the Europa. We can avoid all the best English teams, only have to get past Utd.

Agreed, the two midfield athletes on the bench in Biss and Sarr was exactly what we needed on the pitch.

I don’t think he is over rated but Dragusin deserves a run. Romero has been iffy for a while for us. A ret will do him good

Was a weird feeling watching it unfold. Disappointed and pissed off but no real sense of surprise for me. There's always that feeling we have something like this in our locker.

Was a period under Poch where I believed we were moving on from these type of capituations but we had peak Dembele, Vertonghen and Alderweirald at the base of our team that gave us so much solidity. Dembele especially just gave us such an outlet where he could almost single handedly wrestle back some control for us.

We need to start getting injured and lying down to kill the game . Arse do it as a matter of course.

I get that ultimately managers are control freaks….but the best ones know when things aren’t going the way they want…they aren’t stubborn enough not to change things…

He doesn't sound happy, bit like the rest of us then.

An honest assessment I think and it feels like it's not the first time a Spurs manager has fundamentally said in a press conference "the players didn't compete and win their individual battles". I hope he can fix it but the poxy International Break has come at the worst time.

After an absolutely shit week at work (with job security looking uncertain in the medium term with revenue falling off a cliff) I've had a decent weekend with the missus, my 2 boys and our new puppy. Hate the way football can kick you hard in the balls sometimes even though it should matter far less in the grand scheme of schemes.

Time for a couple of whiskies and some gaming on my PC before being back on the health kick on Monday- and to avoid all social media tonight/MOTD2/SSN to ensure I don't Cantona kung fu kick the TV......

VDV is praised because he can run fast but the rest of his game is not great . Apparently we have two top centre backs but let in 63 goals last season…….doesnt add up.

I suppose why did he make changes at all if that were the case?
That would have been just throwing his players under the bus.

Anyway, it’s just a thought. If this is what he was doing, I’m not really sure what to think of it. Especially after this run of games, going into the international break.
