We have been shocking tonight but somehow we were in it to the end despite being 4-0 down at 80minutes. Add to that we have hit the post once, had three marginally offside goals, and another 3/4 chances, all after giving away two stupid penalties. Seriously lets wait until ange has had two more windows to really mould this squad.

EDIT: hit the post twice now

FEELING POSTITVE
Not to mention a stonewall pen at 2-0 when Son got a knee across his thigh when lining up a shot.

And he got pushed over in the area at the end. Yes it may not have been much and he was off balance but it was a foul as he'd have had the ball otherwise

Frustrating result but the performance over the 100 mins, given our probs, wasn't so bad.

Quite a bit on Ange as others have said. GLC should have started and PEH on to see out the game. And really could it be that bad to play Phillips alongside Davies at CB ?

But as you say, has anybody ever seen a team 4-0 down after 80 mins almost get a point ? I doubt it. I was thinking we'd be very lucky not to drop points tonight so I'm not that disappointed

I’m also taking my 8 year old Son to his very first Spurs match in Feb at home to Brighton, fingers crossed tonight is not repeated then. He asked to go to bed at halftime, not a good sign!
Your 8-year-old Son, or your 8-year-old son?

It's so fucking frustrating that just at the time we start getting competent recruitment and a decent style of play that we are plagued with injuries and suspensions.

I know Ange has made the situation worse sometimes with the odd selection error but let's be honest we'd be comfortably in the top 3 had even 2 of Romero, VDV, Bentancur and Maddison been fit, or we'd had suitable replacements.
Easy for me to say myself, as I'm the most impatient person I know tbh, but we really will just have to wait for the next two windows to balance the squad out to something other than world-beaters or can't be relied on to do the basics as is currently the case.

Made great strides last summer. Hopefully get a couple in this Jan to right the ship and mostly compete the job this summer coming.

Injuries have screwed us as you say. We might have been able to squeak through with just a regular injury just and no Europe. Nearly half the squad out at any one time was just too much with its current imbalance. Indeed, it's done better than I'd have thought tbf.

we will never win anything with a defence like this
Well considering we had two FBs at CB I don't think we'll have it that often..

Both Davies and Emerson have played better with an actual CB in Romero alongside them. It's no surprise they looked shakey when it is neither's natural position is it?

No way, Kulu had a bad match tonight but he has been one of our best players all season. Lo Celso has done his usual one or two good games and other than that had been fucking useless, his tackle tonight for the penalty was utterly brain-dead.
Kulu is out of the next game though so who else would you start? It’s GLC or Gil or a midfield 3 of Hojbjerg, Sarr and Skipp. I’d have GLC.

Our discipline is costing us big time. To give two stupid penalties away in one game is so poor. They cut through us like butter, but we really could have got something from that game.

Yeah

I didn't like how slow we were in good positions, lack of movement, lack of speed of passing, but we've shown we're able to score goals in spite of that.

But the poor discipline is costing us almost constantly and if it isn't costing us then we're getting away with it (like the Bissouma red card). What is causing GLC to make that idiotic tackle for the penalty for example? Is it the same brain worm that has affected Udogie (vs Chelsea), Romero, Bissouma to name just a few?

Finished on the left, but still our best option through the middle.

I still with Richarleson looks more dangerous than son up top for us. Closes down more and looks more like scoring recently when getting chances. Son just doesn't fill me with confidence when in the box just now.

Nothing about that was to do with Vic, Udogie, Emerson or Richi. Son, Davies, Holjberg need to have a word with themselves.

We've spent 130m net two seasons in a row, among the top 5 spenders in the world.
yet the last 2 seasons still haven't seen us address the impact of those poch years of zero investment (for god sakes, we still have those players playing & producing the same poor results).Yes, I fully agree that our investments have been better these past 2 years but we still needed more (1 CB) at the start of this season. Again, I never said DL OUT - I said I expect him to realise that we need even more investment than he's made over the past 2 seasons. We need to rid the club of the deadwood (Ndombele, Dier, Gil, etc.) - instead of carrying them season after season & then not buying proper players because of wage bill, etc.

Tonights frustration is really about how threadbare we are & seeing how open the title is this season. Just feels so frustrating to actually be so close yet so far!

It has to be Lo Celso yes but aside from two games he has been shite this season (as he has been every season)

Ange doesn’t pick Dier for a good reason - it’s suicide in this system. At the very least this result should confirm beyond doubt that we need to sign a genuinely good fast ball playing centre back in the first half of January.
