But as has been noted before we struggle with teams who use a similar pressing game to ours.
Today for example then leverkusen, liverpool, and i remember the spammers fucking us up doing the same at their place last year.
Whilst our unbeaten run is fantastic and morale boosting etc we tend to dominate most of the opposition with the ball, but in reality create very little threat in their goalmouth which teams now look to be noticing.

That's true but if say, we had tried long shots at a very suspect goalie (in Boruc), we might have got an early goal which might have forced Howe into a change of gameplay. Our attacking players, today, seemed bereft of ideas.

Kane likes to try shots from distance but not many of the others do.

Anyway we can't change today's result but I hope Poch has learnt from our last few games and has devised a few different plans to apply against opponents that use different tactics.

The unbeaten thing is a bit of a nonsense really. The aim of the game is to score goals and win, not remain unbeaten. 1 win and 1 loss gains you more than 2 draws so I know what id prefer. Forget being unbeaten, we are dropping points, that's the bottom line.

Yeah but it's the fact that it could be better though isn't it. Just because ones doing well doesn't excuse tepid performances

Agreed it was a luke warm performance, these will happen. It's a long season and away to Bournemouth is a tricky fixture as many teams I suspect will find out this season.

I think if we had scored first we would have won simply because we seem to be able to defend a game out.
Certainly poch has a bit of a problem in trying to get this team scoring a bit freely and winning more than we draw, Im concerned that we might not be able to break the scum down and i can see spammers getting a draw against us too.

Are you serious we have dropped 4 points against sides we should really be putting away see liverpool tonight for evidence of that.
We have much to be proud of with our good young team but we should not overlook that we are impotent up top which other teams also know.

1. Liverpool are at home
2. Yes I'm serious, our best start to the season for a really long time.
3. It was pretty much the same team who tore Man City a new one, so hardly impotent in that match!?

Movement, invention and pace. 3 things we lack in attack.
Literally one player would make a massive difference for us.

We are better than Liverpool in 7/8 positions though. Lloris, the defence, Wanyama, Dembele and Kane would all start in a combined XI

Lallana, Mane, Coutinho/Firmino make a real difference though

Spot on, back and middle we are the best, when Kane is fit we have a great striker but we are missing that explosive attacking player. Coutinho has that low centre of gravity, quick of the mark ability we totally lack that causes any defence problems.

We really either have to buy or hope Edwards and Nkoudou develop quickly otherwise we are to predictable. Having Kane back will help a bit though.

Looking forward to not only seeing Kane back in the team but also back to the form he was in the major part of last season.

With Kane back, it would allow Son to go back to the left of the three behind Kane, which I think is his best position.

9 games in, 1 point off top and undefeated, and people are bitching.............you couldn't make it up o_O:banghead:

I'm sorry but it's been a really unpleasant and frustrating 8 days watching Spurs and many of the problems of last season are reappearing. And Poch's insistence on playing underperforming players is troubling. My heart sank when I saw the team today. Son won us two away matches in a row when played on the left. Against City, it was a good tactic to use him as a false 9 but weren't playing City today.

I'm getting less and less optimistic about this season. Most teams have improved from last year and if we don't we'll start going backwards pretty quickly. We need Kane back asap and for the underperforming players to be dropped and something different tried such as GKD.

We won't know any of this until the end of the season, for example a rival team could go to Bournemouth and lose. Other teams have and will drop points this season which tells you it's not an easy league so we need some perspective I think and not the kind of bed wetting we've been subjected to on here in the last week or so.

Just watching L/pool v WBA. Pool on another level to us. They look they will score with every attack, unlike us.

While we are missing Kane.

And their defence, still, looks a level below ours...at least. The Baggies should really have punished them before they scored (and were unlucky not to do so).

Why do folk always just look at the attack when wanting to negatively compare us? The defence exists too!

TBH, maybe it is a historical thing given how feeble our defence has frequently been. Need to adjust thinking, we have the best defence in the league now.

But what does being at home matter We had 72% of the Ball against WBA away so should have won it.
The last couple of games CL included we have been impotent scored 1 goal in 3, still we are on the march regardless but need to finish teams off period.

He plays in the middle three with Pogba and Matuidi. He goes deep and typically picks the ball up off the CBs or around midfield. He isn't in the front three
Yeah. Bit more advanced nonetheless - the fact that he plays with Pogba probably helps

He plays so well for France

But higher up the pitch

Ok but we already have better players for those forward positions. £10~14m would be acceptable for a player that might normally start from the bench as he has not really been pulling up trees when he was at Newcastle.

I think it is a genuine concearn that we are not putting our opportunities away.

In general we are actually playing well without looking really potent.

Don't think we are really creating much either, certainly not clear cut good thought out chances, I'm more concerned about that.

Agree.

We seem to have sorted out our defence. Even when we have to use cover in our defence for injured/suspended players, the old heads (Lloris, Alderweireld & Vertonghen) are there to calm down the nerves. With the excellent addition and form of Wanyama, I'm very comfortable with our current defence.

I think we now need to try and learn how to unlock stubborn opposing defences. Many mid and lower level teams tend to be ultra defensive when playing against us and we haven't shown how to sort this out, other than a few games here and there.

International football is also played at a snails pace with space everywhere. No comparison to Premier League football in which he's looked average for a good 18 months now.

Fortunately Kane will be back soon.

Son looked peaky to me today (peaky an expression used by Mums everywhere to describe how someone looks when they are ill or potentially ill with an undefined ailment or state). Hope fully it was either that or just a one off.

I firmly believe Janssen will click sooner or later - hopefully sooner.

I genuinely believe Poch is a very smart manager who is constantly learning. He works like a trooper and I'm sure that includes going through our games with a fine tooth-comb looking to rectify errors and make improvements.

I'm guessing you're a septic as you finished a sentence with a period and a . yes we could have beaten WBA and probably should have, we also could have lost it and didn't. Being at home is an advantage, it's your patch and you've 30-70k people willing you to win. Almost invariably your home form is better than away over a season. Liverpool lost away to Burnley with over 80% possession does this mean that they're shit, of course not. Judging how we're doing by what you think the result should've been is leaving you open to disappointment and misses the beauty of Football, in that sometimes you'll lose points you shouldn't and gain others you don't deserve.

Just because you support or follow a team does not mean they're entitled to roll over every other team every time, Liverpool and Yanited fans are like that and I like to think our fans are better than that and understand Football.
