How did Ndombele do in the second half? Is he the answer to our midfield problems? Did he put a shift in and track back?

Good. Was our best midfielder, although that's not saying much going by our overall performance. But he passed the ball forward quickly and came looking for the ball in the middle to try and transition quick.

Winks and sissoko can't pick forward passes......
I disagree. Although he'll never be Eriksen, Winks can. It's noticeable that just about every time he gets the ball he looks forward to see what's on. I don't mean a 'hollywood' pass, just a progressive one that he can follow to begin an attack. The problem is that he has nobody to pass to because ahead of him everybody is static. So back and sideways we go. Again.

Yep, the lack of movement up front was really noticeable.

My problem with Mourinho is that I’m just not even seeing the start of some basic team play being built. There are no green shoots so to speak.
If I could see a hint of some structure and gameplan being introduced, I’d buy into the plan.
These players are looking poor, but if Mourinho still is a truly world class coach then he should be able to extract more out of him than he currently is.
He has been unable to coach them into any recognisable formation or style, and continues to be unable to motivate them it appears.

My only hope is wholesale changes in the summer, rebuild the squad from top to bottom in the image me he wants, but then the pressure will be on, no more excuses about the squad not being as he wants. But in truth, do we see big changes, or just the usual couple of Plan B or Plan C options after we’ve wasted all summer chasing players who either have no real intention of coming, or even more annoying Levy has no intention of paying the selling club’s fee. Don’t have to be all world beaters and champions league winners etc, just need to be eager to work, on and off the pitch, and provide the squad with a greater balance in general.

We need fullback overhaul, get some that can move up and down the pitch and deliver accurate crosses without being a liability at the back, centre backs need freshening up, we need a defensive midfielder, any defensive midfielder, plus central midfielders who can pick a pass and create chances, and attacking players who can move off the ball and find space.

Can’t wait until someone comes on here to announce how much worse we were under Poch. That will make it all better :cautious:

All this Poch revionism needs to stop as well.

We were playing this bad under him for a good 9 months towards the end of his tenure.

Its easy to bash the new manager when he's working with the same player mentalities and deficiencies that got the last manager sacked.

Narrator: "he didn't feel better"...

:shifty:

If the scouts are getting it completely wrong then that falls to Levy as well. Our entire recruitment setup is a disaster. Joe Lewis needs to step in and relieve Levy of his transfer duties, confining his role to the business aspect of the club and nothing more. It won't happen, though.

Years of last min buys and holding on to deadwood players with unrealistic valuations for far too long. fair enough.

Is the idea of giving a new manager some transfer windows to bring in the players they want that outlandish?

It's a good point but then if the squad was always the problem why did we sack Poch rather than giving him the rebuild he called for?

Fucking chicken and egg shit we've got going on at Spurs. :cautious:

This is up there as one of the most depressing matches ever seen now I know why it was on Pick - a free Sky channel full of crap why it was top billing! My only pray is it's all part of Mourinho's masterplan to fool the Gooners into thinking they have it easy when we meet if it's not he's hanging by a thread.

They say history repeats itself George Graham and watching Spurs in the 90s a trip down horrible lane :poop: oh well might lead to a league cup win (y) heavy drinking required

terrible game losing my interest in watching after the last 2 gam

me too, I’ve had enough. I’m going to follow/cheer for another team in white managed by a good friend of Pochettino for the remainder of the season. They may concede a few but play high pressing attractive attacking football......dirty Leeds

I’m not arguing that Poch was still achieving progress at the end of his tenure.

But he promised us he would and then worked tirelessly to build us an identity that we could be proud of as fans - something I hadn’t known for a long time.

It took a long time to do and has now been destroyed in months.

Really depressing.

Kane had better service from their crosses When he was defending our box than he did from our players attacking theirs..

We did ok business last summer, but you can't rebuild a squad in one window which is why going two windows without signing has killed us

To many players have lost their way at once. Kane,Alli, Son all gone backwards, maybe they need some competition. Our midfield is shocking when we play Winks & Sissy, I would go with Lo Celso, Tangy and A N Other. We have no-one to play a defense splitting pass we have no movement our build up play is slow, predictable and boring. Toby is our best defender but even he is prone to a few gaffs, For me we require, a good mobile midfielder Brunoesque., a strong DM, a striker to take the weight of Kane or even play with 2 up front, CB, RB & LB. Start having a tougher mentality, roughen up the oppo, get in the refs face and get rid of the soft underbelly we have.

Castigne/Perriara/Semedo/Sandro/Tah
Countinho/Zakaria/Reyna
Dembele/Eduardo
Partey/Ndidi

They would be my list
