Considering our coaching stuff already has intimate knowledge of him as they’ve already seen him in game and on the training pitch makes me a lot less worried about his abilities whether or not he puts up enough tackles and interceptions on whoscored/opta/whatever.

Apparently didn't play well at all vs Monaco yesterday as Lille got thrashed 5-1. Saw comments from Lille fans on twitter saying it looks like his head has been turned with all the transfer talk.

Additionally, watched some highlight clips from different Lille champions league games this season. He looks alot like Ndombele on defense to me. Its not about his defense quality but more so his intensity and effort.

This is one of those transfers that’s hard for me to worry about, because unlike a normal transfer our coaching staff will know this player inside and out, better than almost anyone in the world. If we sign him, it’s because they know he’s probably good enough; if we don’t try, it’s because they suspect he isn’t. So it’s hard to feel like there’s much point in watching a few YouTube clips and speculating.

Watched this game yesterday, didn't play well but he could be great partner for Ndombele, was more defensive than Andre

If he can do the followings things

1) Receive the ball in pressure and keep it
2) Pass the ball accurately
3) Move up and down the field without lumbering or looking completely lost
4) Keep positional discipline

That would make him better than Dier and ensure that he would start for us ahead of Eric.

He can seemingly do the first 3, not sure about 4

Sign him up. The last one can be coached and worked on extensively in training.

Reading the game and being in the right place is the most intuitive thing on that list and therefore the hardest to coach (if it's possible to coach at all).

Think this is It, maybe not fully but just shortened with the main bits of info

GFFN is an Arsenal fan IIRC, so not surprising he would translate it that ManU would be preferred even though it doesnt make sense why he would want to go there if Pogba left.

I saw another tweet translation that was along the lines of the player needed to make his mind up about a move (in general I guess?) before we made a final push.

Ah yes, clicked on it. It says we're waiting on him to make a decision:

But England is viewed as Soumaré’s likely preferred destination, with two sides currently in serious contention. The first is Manchester United, who the player likes the idea of joining, especially should Paul Pogba depart. The second is Tottenham Hotspur, who are very much waiting on him for a decision. Any deal is expected to cost clubs €50m to €60m including bonuses.

IMO ManU seems like paper talk. I'd be really surprised if he wouldn't want us to come play next to Ndombele and under all his old coaches.

Man U have been linked together with us from the beginning. It's so they get those juicy clicks from starving Man U supporters.

We need a proper, quality DM who can organise and implement the defensive aspects of our midfield. IMO, Soumare very much doesn't fit this template.

He’s a good player, but not the DM we need....

That's the vibe I get watching his clips. If he were to arrive in January, a young guy moving to a different league/country so will take time so I wouldn't be expecting too much from him from now until the end of the season and like you say not convinced he solves our issue at DM.

Can't help but feel Mourinho is going to turn to Matic in the short term. Not too sure how I'd feel about it as a lot of Utd fans seem to think he has been on a downward curve for a while but just feel it's someone Mourinho trusts and with his contract running down, Levy may be tempted to low ball towards the end of the window in the hope Utd take money for a player who has been out the team and can go for free in 6 months time.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I don't know mate, I think that you can tell a lot from a one minute video clip with a soundtrack.

Matic is just as bad as Dier at this point, legs have well and truly gone.
