Saido Berahino struggled in his last few years in England and left Stoke City and completed a switch to Belgian side Zulte Waregem in the summer.

I feel for the guy, but I’ve read a lot about how his attitude sucked big time at Stoke. He basically had 2 options:

1. Sulk and mope, and let his career decline
2. Play his socks off and make his value so high that the club couldn’t afford to keep him. Get his agent to help broker a move that was good for him and the club.

I think he chose badly. Sounds like he now understands he had things back to front. I’m glad he’s doing better at his new club. 3 goals in 5 games. That’s a decent return! I hope he can pick his career up again and win some trophies.

IIRC he had 2 years left on his contract when we tried to sign him. All he had to do was keep scoring goals for a year and tell the club he wasn't going to renew his contract forcing West Brom to cash in or see him walk for free ( tribunal fee) .

It's such a shame. I read one report about him at Stoke. Players not in the first eleven had to do runs or sprints or something like that. Berahino only walked. The squad got called in on a Sunday as punishment. Everyone turned up except for Berahino. He called in sick.

Apparently there was practically a riot.

Feel sorry for him reading that. Easy to say he should have just got his head down but some deal with disappointment better than others. Ultimately he was right to be gutted, the collapse of that move was a sliding doors moment for his career.

Yeah I remember the toilet seat thief glen johnson telling that story on the radio. Because he’d never do anything stupid now would he!

While I have some sympathy for him, essentially he had other chances and didn’t take them.
