Would surprise me at all if Harry takes him at the last moment.

Well, BAE wasn't all that last season there goes against it. On the other hand they need left back and if they haven't got any on 11th hour - well perhaps?

That's my point, mate. Nobody appears to want him, there's a reason for that.

Well, he would be best player in most of football clubs in the world and in many leagues too, so it isn't just about no club wanting him. There are always financial issues too, bet his agent is holding for us to pay off his contract and then he chooses some club as free agent.

Despite being a supporter of BAE, I feel this has definitely got something to do with his ability/current form rather than any off the field issue.

Even players that are earmarked as "trouble" get some type of interest in them.

Exactly! It's no secret that he's been available since returning from QPR, yet NOBODY has come in for him, not even the club he was on loan at last season. There is, as you say, a reason for that & it's a football related one, and nothing to do with his personality or his friends off the pitch.

was it not a case of his contract being up if we didn't activate another year? Or am I mixing him up with Kaboul?

I think you already know I'll disagree with your opinion about how he would "be best player in most of football clubs in the world and in many leagues too" . Nothing personal, Finn, just a difference in opinion about this particular player (y)

It is mainly monetary issue, just take say practically any League 1 - they would want him, or any Finnish team, or practically any Ligue 2 and so on. And there are likely to be lot better teams than those (say Belgium league, Championship and so on, probably weaker sides on better leagues too and so on). List would be very, very long if they could have him on their terms (though Benny might not want to go for such clubs, especially on terms they can afford).

Well, how many clubs there are in UK alone? Adding semi-professionals to professional sides (how many of Scottish tiers are professional btw?), reckon there are quite a bunch of teams in UK alone where he would be the best player.

I obviously misunderstood the "best player in most of football clubs in the world and in many leagues too" & didn't realise you meant in the lower leagues and lesser footballing renowned countries.

I don't see either interest from say PL clubs unless they're desperate for left back in the last minute. Guess there could be interest from say smaller Ligue 1 clubs, but financial gap to Evian and Reims and such is huge and even on free deal would be difficult if we don't compensate big slice of wages. Could be we either buy off the contract or loan him out to Championship after deadline and pay chunk of wages.

Fuck that mate. The guy is blatantly not wanted, and as you say, other clubs won't take up his wages. So rather than keeping him here & paying those wages that nobody else seems happy to take on, just tear up his contract and let him go. I'd imagine his wages are at least £2mil per season? What's the point of paying that money to a player we don't want?

Well, should we tear up his contract we end up paying all that is left of it. If we loan him out, we might cover some of the wage expenses. But reckon we will try to negotiate the release with his agent, pay x% of remaining contract and he is free agent able to choose whatever offers there will come. Expect some haggling over that x%.

Yep, I'd like to think our club has enough class to find an amicable solution to the BAE situation. The lad may well be a bit too laid back for many supporters BUT he served our club well up until last season. That should be respected, in my opinion.

Actually he can fit into the squad now, so...
Benny has not been near the team for more than a year. Not training. Exiled from the club. For good reason, too. He will not be part of the squad list and rightfully so. He will never wear our shirt again, mate.

Dawson naming Rose in front of him in his Spurs XI of people he played with told me all i need to know about the clubs feelings regarding Benny.

I know all of that, I'm just pointing out that we have 2 spare over-21 slots in the squad, one for an international and one for a home grown player.

And in writing that I have completely forgotten Ceballos is on the books. Silver lining!
