I never thought I would say this but Davies has been a big loss for Jose as he is a perfect player for the system he wants us to play. Fingers crossed he stays fit because we need him.

Back before end of January apparently - very good news as of fully fit our best option for left back (and was doing well in West Ham match before he unfortunately got injured).

Would be nice and solid behind Son.

Azpillcueta may be better but I would say “much better”. Anyway I was merely saying they had a similar style and are underrated because of their style, not comparing quality.
I would argue Davies would play plenty of games if he played for Chelsea or man Utd

In a rotation but once again not likely a starter. Additionally Chelsea are probably the weakest of that group and have been reported to be in for Chilwell in the Summer so they're looking to upgrade, so not a ringing endorsement. If so many people are disagreeing with me saying that he's an average player I'd like them to explain how he likely wouldn't start at any other team competing for Champions league spots or beyond that. He's a Southampton level starter, not Spurs.

Man U have Shaw as their left back
Chelsea have Alsonso and Emerson
Wolves play with a back 3 and Davies would probably start for them in that position too.
Davies is a better defender than all of those imo and with the role Jose has for him in our side I wouldn’t swap him for any of those.
Can’t believe I not mentioned Arsenal in this, maybe I subconsciously not think they are in the mix for top 6 ? but for argument sake Davies would walk into their team too

I'll just agree to disagree. Feel free to look back through the older pages of the thread, plenty of them during the season after he's had a run of games where everyone is saying he's average, not a good enough starter etc. He, Winks (probably not anymore) & Sanchez are the most overrated players on this forum.

Absence and poor form seem to have made some elevate him massively on here. Maybe Mourinho playing more of a disciplined back four will suit but as a wingback he’s very average imo.

Winks and Sanchez have both in differing degrees had massive losses of confidence and form.

I’ve never seen anything from Davies even at his very best and fittest to change my opinion that he’s an average full back and below average wing back

Was so pleased when we bought him and pretty much from day one have been so disappointed. Especially his lack of pace. Frightening

So this thread hasn’t been bumped 4 or so hours after the game finished.

A bit strange.

He saved a goal line shot to prevent us going two down and lasted 90 minutes. Looked solid and dependable.

Good to have him back.

Agreed. Man of the match for me. Defensively solid with the great goal line clearance saving is going 2 down. Good going forward as well. Welcome back. To go from no good options at left back 6 weeks ago to Tanganga and Davies now is a real plus

Totally agree. I think Ben is really underrated. He has his limitations, but he is, for the most part, dependable defensively. Jose will love this. Creating any sort of solidity/consistency in defence will hopefully see us sneak into 4th.

Thought he did well considering he was out for around 3 months.

Impressed that he managed the full 90 minutes as well.

As a member of the "Ben is a great squad player" brigade, i have to admit he had a quality performance today. Very pleased for him and the team.

I am not really a Ben Davies fan but he did grow into the game after a shaky start. I thought that Joses comment prior to the game about having Ben back to do the job that he does, was rather telling. Jose knows that Davies has limitations and I don't see him as our first choice LB next season, but for the time being he can do a 'job' for the team.
