We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to extend Ben Davies' contract, which will now run until the summer of 2026.

Now our longest-serving senior player, Ben joined us from Swansea City in the summer of 2014 and has been a constant, reliable presence in our squad ever since.

He's currently up to 358 appearances in all competitions, level with the great Darren Anderton - making him one of only 29 players in history to have played 350 or more games for us.

With 73 games under his belt in Europe, he's just three off the record for the highest number of European appearances in our history.

Our squad is tight and pressed by home grown rules making it smaller in UEFA. Keeping Davies means not signing that left sided defender we could need.

I like Ben, he has been a great servant of the club and by all accounts a great guy. I just think this shows Levy's lack of ambition once again. Ben is now getting on and was found out so many times last season.

He’s not cut out for a high line but in a more reasonable system he can still do a job for us. Especially in home matches where the opposition camps in their own half. We became so easy to play against that we haven’t had one of those matches for a while, but under normal circumstances our main problem is breaking teams down. I think Ben is fine in those sort of matches.

He’s also a model pro and has a history with the club. Bergvall was just 8 years old when Davies joined Spurs. I think it’s good to have one or two players who have some history. He’s one of the only players at the club who can talk about playing at the old White Hart Lane. Many of our young players were young kids when we left the old stadium. It’s good for them to hear stories about it and the history of the club.

Happy to have him for one more season. Always does a decent job when called upon.

Also sounds like a great professional in his character off the pitch too.

Happy to keep him, we need some experience in the squad. Good influence on the youngsters. Didn't he also get his training badges? So could be with a view to him moving onto the coaching team after another year with us.

wonder whether Frank had any say on this.
Perhaps Thomas Frank sees Davies similar to Ben Mee at Brentford. Might not be captain, but acacknowledged as a leader, especially due to his vast experience and professionalism. Davies usually performes well when called upon and is now part of a europa league-winning squad. Gray has said that Davies is a role model. But, Daddy Davies will not be a guaranteed starter and primarily used off the bench or in cup games. Just like Ben Mee.
