Horrible geopolitical decision.

Or it could be that following WADA's report which states doping control officers were intimidated when trying to find athletes, that samples sent abroad for testing had been tampered with by Russian customs and how the number of tests conducted in Russia over six months had fallen by more than half Seb felt he had no choice but to ban Russian athletes.

I don't believe the 2018 World Cup will be held in Russia.

I'd like to believe you but I can't. FIFA, UEFA get hundreds of millions in sponsorship every year off them. Money is all FIFA care about.

Pleased about their athletes getting banned though.

Syria, Ukraine etc is what this is all about I'm afraid.

No. It's because the Russian state have been systematically doing their athletes for decades.

They were finally caught because of two whistle blowers who are now in hiding for fear of their lives, people's entire lives and careers have been wrecked.

This was the only way they could deal with this.

That's only their track-and-field athletes. I'd like to see their athletes from other sports also being banned, but I also realise it's highly unlikely to happen

I bet the Russian athletes are at Brazil... as individuals claiming clean(not caught yet) athletes shouldn't suffer for the guilty ones?

i love Putin's comment, "What about the so-called Clean Athletes?" It's like saying so why can't the cheats that haven't been caught go, it's not fair on them.

Bumping this for the European Championships. The UK has knocked it out of the park in the sprints. Asher-Smith smashed the British record to beat Dafne Schippers and win the women's 100m while British runners came 1st (9.95 - new championship record), 2nd (9.96) and 4th in the men's 100m. And they are all under the age of 25. Exciting times for British sprinting.

Shame about the x-factor style hot seat for those in fastest loser spots.

who the fuck thought that was a worthwhile idea?

Probably the same person who thought running and swimming finals needed pyrotechnic intros.

Surprised they don't have explosions for when they cross the finish line.

They'll introduce that after they've worked out how to implement a fan boost vote system that makes an athlete move faster.

Needs to get on the same gear to beat her
Nah she's only got a couple of years left at the top, can see her retiring after Tokyo...Dina's got another 10 years in her.
Her time will come, and thinking about it...who wants to become World Champion infant of about 60 people, it's farcicle.
