Anyway, just watching Villa (remember them) on MotD. Seems like they have 3 key players (not all young) that were hot topic in September/October:
- Grealish
- Mings
- McGinn

Since villa have been turdy, only Grealish is getting spoken about. They're surely going down, so I wonder whether the other 2 will be coveted.

Can't get over the amount of cash they spent in the summer.

Too many players in and not enough quality. Would probably have done better to keep most of the Championship squad for cohesion purposes, and add 2 or 3 quality expensive signings to it.

Yes definitely, like Sheffield United did. Quality over quantity. It's why we could never have done this magic "change the squad" rebuild without being worse off.

If you were to ask me, which you didn't, but still, I'd say that any more than 2 or 3 new players in the first team per season is detrimental.

McGinns been injured since Christmas and only started playing again after the restart. I'm sure clubs will be after him.
Mings would be a good buy. He might be one for us to look at

Between Bournemouth and Villa there are a few:

Ake/Mings
Brooks/McGinn
Fraser/Grealish

They had quite a few loan signings last season so had to replace those players this time round. Some of the deals they did were just to make the loan deals permanent.

Poor guy, that's probably the vast majority of his season done. Players have taken 9+ months to recover from a ruptured achilles (it's what Spinazzola did at the Euros iirc).

I knew coutinho would be a disaster signing for them. Did well for two games, everyone wet their pants, and then he’s done nothing since.

That signing was all on gerrard and will probably be one of the reasons he will be sacked before then end of the season.

The breakdown some posters here had when Villa bought him and we didn’t was hilarious.

Emery is a good appointment. They’ll be comfortably top half with him. At the same time it doesn’t make me fear them as potential competition. Emery’s domestic record isn’t great and whilst he’s tactically astute he’s struggled to establish a consistent philosophy at the clubs he’s been at. Their ceiling with him is the level West Ham have been at for the last few years.

So he´s been at SeVILLA, VILLAreal and now Aston VILLA

strange fetish to have

I like him as a coach though and he seems to be a decent and likeable person, so I am happy to see him more often again

Emery is the only Woolwich manager in living memory who seemed human and likeable. I think he will do pretty well there if he has a little cash to spend.

And he managed David VILLA at Valencia for good measure
