I think Arteta will be a fine coach but they are crazy thinking he can suddenly turn Mustafi into a good defender. They need a good DoF and it will be hard to find a better coach than Emery.

Whats cracking me up is the comparrisons being made by fans and pundits alike.
It could work out because 'Pep did it at Barcelona' and 'Zidane at Real Madrid'.
How can you make those comparrisons with a straight face?
Cascarino on TS this morning actually said Pep didnt go to Man City just because they had money!!! I nearly fuckin crashed the van.

Ahh yes, the rebuilding process which you will get bored of after 14 months, force Arteta out, and be starting from scratch again.

I thought it started when Wenger left?

Another problem Arteta has is the run of difficult matches he has to navigate, at the start of his tenure.

You look at Arsenal's fixtures over the next 2 months and it becomes apparent that they might not get a win for 6 or 7 games.

I don't think the fanbase is patient enough, so that will put added pressure on the inexperienced manager.

If they lose today, draw against Bounmouth and only get 1 or 2 points out of Chelsea and UTD they could be in real trouble come the New Year. Not exactly an ideal situation for any manager to be in at a new club let alone when it’s your first proper gig. Here’s hoping.

Hard to say. Our current manager has won plenty and he was only a translator. There is always a chance he will shine but I think it is too far too fast. He needs to manage some reserve teams or teams in lower leagues to learn more first before taking control of a team that is in the top half of the Premiere League. This is real life, not Football manager computer games

He may yet get some experience in the lower leagues with Arsenal tbf.

Next year when 5 of their starters are out of contract.
Or the year after when 5 more are out of contract.

Either: re-sign, sell or they leave on a free.
If re-sign, cool, but that's huge wages for Sokratis (31), Ozil (31), Aubamayeng (30), Luiz (32), Mustafi (27). Last big contracts.
If sell, cool, but with a year to go that isn't going to bring in enough to get better replacements.
If they go on a free, then no income to replace with.

The following year it is Lacazette, Kolasinac, Martinez (the reserve Gk), Chambers and Guendouzi.
All according to Transfermarkt, anyway.

For their sake, they need to show that the club is a good place to stay. Right now they are probably having doubts. Xhaka heavily linked with a move away in the coming January window, too.

This is why maybe Arteta isn't right. If it is to be a project, they don't have the players. They are set up for here and now, in most positions anyway. Just need to actually start giving a shit. If they are to focus on the youth, they need to accept a few years further off the pace - which, I assume, their fans will struggle with.

Everton - Arsenal could be a fun game to watch. Arteta and Ancelotti both watching the game from the stands

Özil misses yet another away game, literally takes the piss out of that club on a daily basis, it’s great to see.

From our POV, the Arteta thing could be brilliant if it goes wrong.

They have, coming up:
  • Everton A
  • Bmouth A
  • Chelsea H
  • Man Utd H
  • Palace A
  • Sheff Utd H
  • Chelsea A
  • Burnley A
  • Newcastle H
  • Everton H
  • City A
(The last two are sandwiched by Olympiacos games)

They are 7 points off the relegation zone. If they don't pick up many points from those 11 games (my more forgiving estimate being 12 points from those 11 games), they could be right in the mire - it'd be 28 games down, 10 left, 34 points.

If it goes wrong, how long will they resist sacking Arteta?

Have to say, Arteta sounds impressive. Saying all the right things. But I reckon his inexperience will come to bite him. He’ll try to make too many drastic changes too soon (think AVB at Chelsea) in a time they need the whole squad on his side. Already hinting he’s going to freeze players out.

BBC Sport Live Text - extracts from the first half:-

Simon Goodall: These two want prosecuting for Crimes Against Festive Football. This is dreadful stuff.
Nick Bush: Everton-Arsenal has all the hallmarks of a relegation six-pointer.
John Acres - BBC commentator on Radio 5 live
This is rubbish to be honest. It's very 0-0.
Noel Fitzpatrick: Both teams playing like they had their Christmas Party last night!
Matt Nevard: Off to paint a wall and watch it dry. Far more exciting than this.
Joss Trennard: This might be the worst game of football I’ve ever watched.

HALF-TIME Everton 0-0 Arsenal
Ah, the sweet mercy of the referee's whistle.
That was awful.

90 mins
Post update
Everton 0-0 Arsenal
Three added minutes to suffer.
Pranav T: Can David Luiz just leave?
Lukey Boy: Name a worse game of Premier League football ever...
FULL-TIME
Everton 0-0 Arsenal
An early Christmas present for insomniacs.
Freddie Ljungberg and Duncan Ferguson bow out with a game I implore everyone never to talk of again.
