We can joke about it all we like but let's bet a bit objective for a moment to pause for thought. If they'd finished 1 point above us instead of 1 point below us and we'd qualified for the Europa League instead of the Champions League, would we have been signing a £70m player ? Would Ndombele have signed for us? At the moment they've outspent us even though they were reported as having a so called 'miserly ' transfer budget. It remains to be seen whether this will be the case at the end of the transfer window and much will depend on whether we get our other deals over the line.

Yes it's arguable that they clearly need to strengthen their defence, but for a team that has qualified for the Europa League could we honestly say we would have matched their current buys if we'd been in their position ? Could we have even said we'd have signed Perez and Tilemans as Leicester have done and we'd failed to qualify for even the Europa League ? Just putting it out there....

Well they do have more money than us, despite Kronke apparantley not providing funds they haven't done too badly.

Not sure who we would have attracted if we didn't have CL, doesn't even bare thinking about tbh :D

I tend to agree. Even if they've got some good players in, the attitude/mentality in their dressing room is still pathetic and I don't think Emery has the man management to fix that. They may do OK but they're nowhere near challenging for titles etc. because they just don't have the right attitude. All this means is they'll have some new faces to take selfies with

Bro, this post is flames fam.

Just noticed that this year’s Emirates Cup is only a one match “competition”.
Presumably, having made up extra rules to ensure they win it when they finish 2nd, they figured they have a better chance when it’s only one match.

I know this sounds a bit "ifs and buts" but we were miles better than them last season. Our injury situation meant we dropped a lot of points over a short period and of it hadn't been for that 3-4 week spell we'd have finished miles above them. Now that we've got more bodies in CM that shouldnt be an issue this season. Even if Ndombele is our only signing, provided we keep eriksen and toby then we've had a better window than arsenal IMO
We are not miles better than them as you put it. We have only beaten them by a point. We conceding sloppy late goals against West Ham, Bournmouth, Southampton, Burnley and others were due to our own carelessness, ineptness and poor game management, and had nothing to do directly with injuries. Convince your self otherwise if it makes you feel better.

Not saying that we are probably not at a better place than Arsenal and probably Manu, but we are not that far ahead and I can see both teams making inroads in the top six, where most, including pundits, seem to think that Arsenal and Manu not doing well this coming season is a far gone conclusion.

I just detest the arrogance of some Spurs supporters, I prefer humility

Watching them vs Lyon and I will be stunned(although most happy) if they don't sign any defenders. Fine going forward but they are so fragile at the back.

Lots of people sound really worried about these ****s. It isn't the 90's. We got this.

They were pretty shit last season with a new manager yet only finished a point behind.

We lost 3 more games, scored less but defended better.
We say we had Extenuating circumstances but so did they really.

They look like they're making some good signings, so far we've signed 1 first teamer, and lost a RB.
Danny rose has no proper preseason and if he doesn't leave won't be match fit . Dier, Davies , wanyama and aurier also no preseason.

I can appreciate why people are starting to become a little weary .

Was watching and thinking the same thing too. Lyon was walking through the defence at will. They do need to strengthen their defence, which I think they will despite having only "45 mill" for transfers :cautious:

It was done and dusted that he was joining Napoli on Friday, so who knows what’s really going on.

Where did this £40m transfer budget number come from. If you trace it back some journalist probably plucked it out of their own arse. I can’t remember this coming from anyone who matters within Woolwich FC.
It seems they have a lot more to spend but were quite happy with it being put around that they are potless, and why not from a negotiating point of view.
They still have a soft spine as it stands and will struggle to get top 4, plus the Thursday night quicksand that is the Europa League, especially at the back end of the season.

I'd said this before, we greatly overvalue or stock/reputation in Europe. Arsenal are a big club to play for still, they're incorrectly still perceived as a club that can go places, whereas we're still termed as plucky spurs.

Arsenal had major injuries in defense last season and still do. Their "best" 2 defenders, Bellerin and Holding, have been out quite some time. When they return their defense will likely improve.

Their defense is still probably not great, but with those and a great attack they will challenge us just like they did last season.

Surprised by the arrogance towards Arsenal after we barely scraped by them last season.

I don't discount them but I do think we have the stronger first XI, more balanced squad, better coach and we should be looking for at least 75-80 points this season. I think they'll do well to get in the 70s at all I'll be very surprised if they manage 75. We're not going to finish twelve points ahead of them, they might make top four but I don't see them finishing ahead of us. I can't see this squad losing 13 games again or anything like it - that alone should push us up into the upper 70s.
