Well he very nearly scored our third and worked his bollocks off all game actually.
Well he didn't score or third and I don't think he did work his bollocks off all game, but it's a matter of opinion. I still think he should have come off for Lucas and he joined Son. As much as I love him there are times when the game isn't just going for him and he has to make way.

Glad Sanchez was at RB today instead of CB. They were full strength we weren't. Decent point today. 2 away games against top 6 sides and no defeats. Good players to come back and into the side. Keep the faith and the support.

I would be too, having wiped the floor with the opposition.
I get the development and all that, but we surely have enough quality as it is to be at least competitive. We lost two very sloppy goals again and yet 90% of this squad have played together for YEARS. And they look as if they just met at times. The bad decision making, the selfishness is apparent.
I'm not throwing in the towel but I'm seriously worried. Premier league teams have had our number for a long time. Put men behind the ball and press and Spurs lose their shit. Everyone does it against us and we have no idea how to combat it because we play so narrowly.
Bad decision making?? Other than Sissoko blazing over our decision making in the final third was much better! There was quicker passes and players weren't taking 5 touches first.
Competitive? We went two up and yes we lost that but still had chances to win it and had more fight - we just tired at the end and had a cb at rb, plus no cb.

We were much better today. And will get better too.

Yes but it’s mainly down to ability.

For all his improvements he’s still no good at kicking ball.

Ability is a learned skill.
He can learn to react differently.

It’s a skill.
Technically, physically and mentally.
It’s a skill...based on a belief that he can keep his composure and create a worthy pass/finish.

If he spent 30 hours with Harry Kane - one on one, focused on finishing...he would be 60-80% better at decision making in those situations.

. I think he gets nervous when he gets towards goal. I also think Sanchez too is a bit nervous.

I should be used to it but, damn, the negativity in these threads just gets so wearying and depressing after a while.

This was a thrilling NLD. Both sides went at it hammer and tongs. Mistakes were made; momentum see-sawed; moments of individual brilliance; moments of diabolical decision-making - it had everything.

But most importantly it was a proper fight. And in the end we came away with a point. Two more than we got from the same fixture last year when Arsenal were worse than they are now.

But, still, these threads are full of fans slagging off players and manager. No credit for any fight shown - just criticism for any and every failing - real or just perceived.

It's really tough just to enjoy a great game of football these days. People everything to be perfect. Seem to take joy out of being the first one to find fault and express their disdain in the most contemptuous way possible.

Imagine being a player and looking at these Match threads (I imagine the Arsenal equivalent is just as bad) - both sides played a proper derby today. They should all be congratulated for that. Instead they are all being slated.

Football's getting harder and harder to enjoy. And the fans are becoming just as much part of the problem. No joy. No perspective. Just vitriol.
I think you are a strange fellow. Not meant as a pejorative, for info.

I appreciate your sentiments, but can’t agree with them.
It’s this very mindset and acceptance of poor decision making and lack of composure that would mean that Spurs will never win a Premier League title.
You have to push for better quality...across the park.
Either different players...or up-skill current players.

Sets him apart as any kind of great player. He is bordering on mediocre
The barometers you are offering are 'great' and 'mediocre'.

Can we just put him somewhere in between?

People are expecting him to be something he is not.

Give it time - I know that we haven't been convincing for a while but we are looking at something of a transition with new players being integrated, players finding fitness and coming back from injury. If we are still not looking convincing by Xmas with, hopefully a full complement of players available then I will understand people's concerns but now is not the time to be losing it IMO. Pointless anyway, Poch isn't leaving or being sacked so we'll have to make the best of it.
Sorry mate I don't get this integrating new players and transition period stuff, nearly every team has new players come August and of the three that we bought one has played two games, the other has come on as a substitute whilst the other one was injured when we bought him.
The core of the squad has been together for years so bringing in a couple here and there should not be to much of a problem, as for this transition nonsense this again gets rolled out every year so when do we become something more complete.
Today was an ok result but in all honesty being two up this team needs to manage games much better than we do and that includes both players and management, they have all been together long enough to stop having these issues occuring on an all too familiar basis.

The weirdest thing about the Kane pen incident is that it was given as a free kick the other way, when Kane was on the floor Sokratis literally puts his hand into his back and shoved him down.

Seems like they are using VAR as an excuse to not give penalties to me, rather than judge the game more fairly.

Xhaka not getting carded earlier was nuts

It's mad. Every little knock outside the area is given as a free kick (and a lot of the time a yellow for our players). But in the penalty area you have to actually commit assault to get penalised.

@Dinghy Look at our record this year. 9 wins 9 losses and 4 draws in the league in 2019. That's 31 pts out of 66. I don't care what anyone says - we are in trouble.
Dier barely played last year. Injured & ill. It has massively affected the way that we play. Dier wasn't 'second' string. He just wasn't available.

OK can I clarify it a bit better. He us in between great and mediocre but a lot closer to mediocre. I mean it was my post.

I didn’t think this was as much of a penalty as last week - which was stonewall. But like I said earlier refs aren’t allowing Kane to put himself between ball and player and then go down. Is this right? I don’t know but that’s what is happening and it won’t change. So I guess Kane will have too.

I just think it’s a case of making sure the ball is his priority.

Feel bad for Sanchez really, asking a player to play out of position in a game like that is asking for trouble.
I agree with other posters that the midfield just doesn't look right at the moment...
Winks and Sissoko don't appear to complement each other at the moment, both appear to be playing roles that are not to their strengths.
Poch is making some strange decisions currently and it's costing us (injuries aside).
Also, I find it frustrating that this is the 4th game and GLC hasn't started yet. I know there's the whole thing about getting him upto 'our' level of fitness. But 1. We don't look that fit 2. The team is crying out for fresh legs and ideas and this guy's supposed to be top drawer.
