... the Champions League because they have a clever business model for the current year, the next year and for the next five years.

So, they have, um, a business model for the next 5 years unlike, say, all other businesses in the world.

Idiots.

Going down.

Probably the same business plan as most football clubs.

Year 1, spend a decent amount of money building a squad to "challenge".
Totally fuck up.
Year 2, panic buy to stave off relegation.
Totally fuck up.
Year 3, sack manager, sell players for a fraction of their value, to get them off the huge wages you agreed in year 1. Get a few decent additions that have experience that will help you get back in the premiership.
Totally fuck up.
Year 4, panic buy again, last ditch at getting back into the premiership before the banks call in the debt.
Totally fuck up.
Year 5 sell to foreign business man explaining how you are such a massive club with great history and a huge potential fan base. Foreign business man doesn't realise that every other club in the Championship is in the same boat so agrees.

Start from year 1 again.

Or is that just West Ham?

"It would be very foolish to build a business model that relied on being in the Champions League for perpetuity "

I thought that was the plan until they nearly missed out to us and decided to re-negotiate their loan re-payments.

I don't doubt they have a non CL reliant business plan, after all we've had one for years however a business plan such as that has to set different targets such as, not winning trophies and certainly not winning the premiership, so clearly we can take it that arsenal have accepted that they are no longer title contenders and will cut their cloth accordingly, that's very good business and you have to respect that. I'm not sure the fans quite understand that they have just officially become a mid table club though, should we tell them?:)

I've no doubt that, as a business, they don't need CL football.

But as a football club they do.
They need it to attract players of the right calibre in order to compete.

If not, us or Liverpool will bag 4th, strengthen with players who want CL football, and Arsenal will have to wait for a top four team to drop out in order to replace them like we had to.
