Whilst what the team have served up over the last two has generally been awful, the darkest hour is just before dawn. Whatever anyone thinks about Mourinho's style and tactics, being outdated etc, there's nobody better at instilling a winning mentality into a club. We've been missing that mental toughness since I can remember. We need him and Levy to recruit smartly this summer and it could start looking rosy again pretty quickly.

I actually think Man U are benefitting from Mourinho now. Rashford for example has said what a good period it was for him growing up mentality wise.

You said this three years ago?

Enjoy!

Hugs to the neglected owner of the hand at the top left of the screen. Cookie Monster isn’t interested in her cookie. She must be a really bad cook. And she must have a really tired arm.

O gods! Who is't can say 'I am at the worst'? I am worse than e'er I was. And worse I may be yet: the worst is not so long as we can say 'This is the worst’.

;)

I think we'll look at Liverpool as an example. They went through mediocre performances, losing multiple cup finals under Klopp and having to bide their time to get some success. They sold a key player in Coutinho and re-invested that money really well. Regardless of how we finish this season, Jose needs time.

It doesn't matter who would have came into this mess. If Klopp/Pep arrived mid season, I don't think the results would have been too different. Sure we would have tried to play some more expansive attacking football and it would look easier on the eye, but our defence would still have the same issues. Pep still relies on his main 4 defenders to be fit after spending 200+ million and when one is out injured, they're poor defensively. Klopp took up until last season to get his defence sorted after the final piece of the puzzle being Van Dijk, who is one of the best CB's the league has seen.

It baffles me how people expect Jose to have sorted out every problem in the space of a few months that even Poch couldn't address. What makes it even more ridiculous is that when Jose arrived, he only had on average 3/4 days in between games to prepare and rehabilitate the players. He had barely any time to work on a training ground with them. (I remember after a game over the christmas period he took training after the game on the pitch). Then when he was given the time and chance to work with the players in training, he was hit with injuries to key players such as Kane, Son, Bergwijn and Sissoko.

Now after a pandemic where he likely spoke to players over zoom and a few weeks to work on team shape and work out what players he can trust, we have seen a slight bit of progress under Jose. Tonight will be key to see how we bounce back but to say we're bound for 10+ of mediocrity is bit of an overreaction. That kind of statement is something you would see on a rival teams fan youtube account ...

Tbf West Ham fill their dustbin, so we should be able to with ours, especially with 56K on waiting list. 10 years is such a long time. 10 years ago, who would have thought Bournemouth would be in the Prem ? Portsmouth were in the Prem. So much can happen.

As much as Levy is a stubborn f~~~~r, in the next ten years Joe Lewis will probably pass away and our ownership will probably have changed hands.

I think what galls of us, is we were so close to making it happen and we've blown it.

But West Ham tickets are cheaper than ours.. Which helps them entice tourists etc to the ground.

Remember we have the highest ticket prices in the league. Im not sure once the stadium novelty has worn off if people will continue paying the prices we charge if the performances on the pitch do not improve and also that the team show a sign of challenging again

Depends what you mean by mediocrity. I can't see us mounting a title challenge any time soon, but I still think we'll put together a decent squad. Whatever you think about Levy's ultimate intentions, it's bad for business if we're not competing in the CL every season so he's got a vested interest in us remaining competitive, unlike e.g. Kroenke who isn't overly bothered either way.
You mean the same Arsenal team that are ahead of us in the table? If you don't see the resemblance in their downfall and ours you're not looking clearly. Only difference is we didn't win any trophies before we moved into our stadium.

Not sure what that has to do with the point i was making? Spurs is Levy's primary focus whereas Arsenal is just another asset in Kroenke's portfolio. Levy runs Spurs on a day to day basis

Comparing us to Liverpool is absoutely outrageous. Their set-up, structure and scouting has been laser-guided for the last few years. If we sold Kane, does anyone really think we wouldn't piss the money up the wall?

Said it before - but in Klopp's first season they battered Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, battered Man City 4-1 at the Etihad and then 3-0 at Anfield, knocked Man Utd out of Europe and came back from three goals down to knock a strong Dortmund side out of Europe, reached two cup finals, were one of only two teams to beat title-winning Leicester all season and had multiple 4+ goal hauls including away from home. The season has been shit but if we'd had a few success stories like these then we might have some reason to be positive - but I'm really struggling to think of anything about Tottenham that feels better than it was this time last year.

As I also said in another thread - it looked like Levy had fucked it in 2008 and 2014 when we clearly went backwards from the last couple of years, but in both cases within two years we were having our highest ever PL finishes so I'm willing to wait and see if he has a trick up his sleeve. But looking at our squad, how much of it needs work and the football being churned around at the moment..it doesn't look promising.
