Spurs step up interest in Semenyo

Tottenham have stepped up their interest in Antoine Semenyo.

However, Manchester United also remain admirers of the Bournemouth forward. That is despite United having a bid rejected for Bryan Mbeumo – a player also on the list at Spurs.

Mbeumo appears to be United's priority target after a £55m offer was rejected by Brentford last week - and they are expected to follow-up with another offer.

Sky Sports News can reveal, however, that United also remain keen on Semenyo along with Spurs.

If by some miracle we managed to sign them both it would be transformative for us and actually give great depth for the added champions league. One on each wing then Johnson central/right wing rotation

4 years left on contract and bournemouth won't need to sell having potentially lost basically their entire defence and keeper. Good player though

Especially for the price (which is insane), finishing ability is poor no way clinical enough also poor crossing ability / consistency, not a real instant upgrade

20 goals and assists from the wing for Bournemouth. And can play either side. I don't think its gunna happen but he's a decent player

Only 1 decent season, but in general still quite wasteful, 50M player hell NO! even at 40M no way, average & not a major upgrade fo that extortionate price, he doesnt improve us majorly at all.

Semenyo is the much more the profile of player I think we need over Mbeumo. Mbeumo has been a consistently stronger creative player than Semenyo, and a lot of Brentford's attack has been ran through him due to his ability to both score and create. But that is part of my issue, I do think that Mbeumo has benefited from Brentford's system and wouldn't get to be the 'main man' with the play being ran through him at a bigger club. Mbeumo also has a fantastic goal return, but the 20 goals this season is a huge outlier, and his xG over performance was 8 this season which isn't sustainable - he's basically matched his xG for the rest of his career previously. I fear he's the type of player that when a team is set up deep defensively, he'd struggle to impact the game as much as he did in Brentford's direct counter style last year.

Semenyo on the other hand isn't a prolific finisher, but he gets goals through the sheer volume of chances he is involved in due to his dribbling, hard work chasing scraps and movement off the ball. He had the third most shots at goal this season after Salah and Palmer. While his finishing would be more frustrating, he'll always be making something happening. He's also far and away a better dribbler than Mbeumo, both in close quarters and taking men on wide in space. He's absolutely rapid, which we're missing in our attack. And to top it off he's a physical beast. He's tall for a winger and excellent in the air, and is a complete tone setter defensively with his pressing work.

Basically I think we've got elements of Mbeumo's strengths in our squad already in Johnson, Deki and Solanke to an extent. But I think we're missing a Semenyo type who'd really give us a new dimension.

I am a huge fan, but I was surprised by his FbRef scouting report...the stats are not favorable. Hard working but not great at passing and chance creation outside dribbling with space o transitions it seems - and he takes quite a lot of shots, probably more than he should

Feel like he's more of a depth option than someone who'll be a nailed on starter. I like him, but he's likely going to be way too expensive for what he'll offer. He was born in england, is he a homegrown option?

And from the Chelsea region.

But that doesn’t matter, does it? As long as he plays for the badge.

Just means he may favour a move to a different club but maybe not - Doherty signed for us. Im not completely convinced by him though tbh. He is big and powerful but isnt the best decision maker. Id much prefer Mbeumo or Eze but maybe Semenyo will be easier to prize away.
