European football expert James Horncastle tells BBC Sport: "Inter seem keen on some wheel-and-dealing and there's a rumour in Gazzetta about a mooted exchange with Tottenham which would see former Porto [and Andre Villas-Boas disciple] Alvaro Pereira go to White Hart Lane with Benoit Assou-Ekotto heading to San Siro.

We never seem to do any good with Portugeezers. Rocha, Dominguez & Postiga. Mendes maybe.

He's an Uruguayan left back, 27 years old. Regular in the national team since 2008.

AVB really wanted him at Chelsea. I remember them making a couple of bids for him.

Seems strange as although he's a pretty average human being Ashley cole is arguably the best lb in the world...

He loves getting up and down that wing and will always add to the attack. Not sure how good he is defensively.

I don't think there is much to chose between Disco Benny and Pereira at LB and no chance of displacing Bale, but in AVB I trust.

Left back is definitely a position we could upgrade on. I like Benny a lot but that fondness isn't all based on ability. He can be sublime one minute and then make a total laugh out loud cock up the next. Case in point against Man U when he brought a high ball down out of the air like Zidane and then shanked a 15 yard pass into the crowd. It's a cult status with him, and I don't think we should let that get in the way of improving and moving towards AVB's preferred style.
If Andre thinks he is better then lets go for it, a swap shouldn't get in the way of any of our other targets either.

In the summer maybe but doesnt make sense to replace BAE one day before the TW closing as both players would be cup tied for their new teams in the EL

From my mate El Pichichi, in Portugal.....

Álvaro Pereira is very good player, in my estimation. He was primarily a left winger/wide midfielder, who was then turned into a full-back in order to better succeed in modern football.

He's extremely powerful going forward, has good pace, extraordinary strong long shot in him, has good acceleration in his dribbling (which he uses to go past his opponents), is physically very strong and aggressive and is good with the timing of his tackles. Like with so many uruguayan players, his determination and his desire really make him stand out in field, running up and down during the 90 minutes.

His crossing is just ok, though not bad. And he sometimes may lose his defensive focus, as he is so attack-minded (maybe one of the reasons why he allegedly has failed at Inter..?).

He's more similar to Bale than to Ekotto, in my opinion. More attacking. But, in my opinion, he would still be an improvement over Ekotto, defensive-wise (and i rate Ekotto, defensively)..Oh, and he was another one of those players who Benfica spotted (like Falcao or James Rodriguez), but Porto "stole" away. This guy actually posed for photos with a Benfica shirt on, having signed a pre-contract with them, only for him and his agent to be lured by Porto afterwards...

Customary vid everyone has one eh?

Favourable comment about him aswell along similar lines to EJW's post.....

very fast, super good crosser, never-ending stamina, does all the left side positions (defender, left miedfielder and left attacker), does the left side from back to front and back again, non-stop troughout the whole game... very, very good player.
Inter got him cheap. Last year, Porto refused 22 M € from Chelsea. He stayed but completly unmotivated. That was a rare mistake from Porto... missing the sell timing.
Thanks for all Álvaro Pereira and good luck for you in Internazionale.
