I know things are concerning when over the last 2 days you're starting to crack:LOL:
Thing is, I genuinely believe that Levy’s done a very good job overall, but having seen a top class squad dwindle into an ok squad laced with a handful of great players, the very minimum expectation now is that we have enough by way of options and depth for those great players to have a platform from which to succeed. I’m not crazy stressed about the defence or midfield as I think there are a few good combinations in both those areas from what we currently have, so long as there’s a strong attack in front of it. I definitely think we are better than we showed on Sunday. However, it’ll be unforgivable if we go into this season with the same risk of ‘Harry out = we’re fucked” given that the money is clearly there, the will is clearly there and the dangers of not buying a good striker were proven last season.

Levy built up a lot of good will with me with the improvements made from 2004 to 2018?, but to not address the decline that’s set in since will use up the last dregs of slack remaining.

However we rate them:

3 international keepers
2 international right backs
1 international, 1 u21 international left back
4 international centre backs, 1 great prospect
6 international central midfielders
5 international attacking midfielders
1 international striker

And this is ignoring the likes of White, Cirkin and Clarke.

Yes, we know some players need upgrading, some are on the downturn, some still have a fair bit of improvement to make, we lack a bit of craft, etc, but these are all subjective issues as well as issues which can be mitigated by tactics and coaching. There is one glaring deficiency which is factual, not subjective, and undermines and quality we have elsewhere, and that is that if Kane gets hurt or is playing badly, we’re blunt up front and then just hoping for an moment of individual brilliance to win a match from him or Son usually. That takes us at least a decade back.

A serviceable striker on the rise in his career with the right physical attributes allows us to rest Kane, to play two up top, to even drop Kane if he’s playing poorly and maybe even push Kane (and other final third players whose place is under threat) to improve. To my mind it’s the difference between José having a squad I’d expect to get 3rd to 6th and win a cup, or dwindle through another tough season from which recovery will be far harder.

I must admit what you touched on I was waiting to bring up once we have our annual deadline day review which is that we have almost silently transitioned to a worse starting 11 from 2017 to now. The one caveat was that it seemed our overall 25 was stronger and with a manager who plays the game the way he does, the collective effort of the squad should allow us to stay competitive. Not sorting the striker situation and possibly the left back situation in terms of squad depth could severely undermine our the one caveat we have left. The reason I haven't let frustration get the better of me yet is simply that it seems almost impossible that we won't strengthen the striker role with a positive signing given the plethora of talent out there atm.

reading a lot of slander about Sorloth here which probably comes from the fact that he was poor for Palace but he has had a great season in Turkey numbers wise and some of the stretches I got to see showed a lot of ability. perhaps not the flashiest name in the market but wouldn't classify it as a failure in case he was the one we got just yet.

The standard of the Turkish League as a whole has never been the greatest, but it's deteriorated further in recent years. That said, Trabzonspor are not at the level of the Istanbul big 3 and had a great season last term being pipped by another Istanbul club, Basaksehir, who won their first title. Trabzonspor had a few decent players carrying them, and among them were Sosa, Novak and Sorloth. These 3 formed a great understanding and Sorloth benefited from plenty of chances per game. With goals comes confidence and he manged to score different types of goals which showed a versatile nature to his game alongside the 'target man' profile. Sosa and Novak have since joined Fenerbahce and Sorloth has gone somewhat AWOL leaving Trabzonspor to lose their first league game 1-3 at home to Besiktas over the weekend...

Whether he comes or not I don't know, but given the versatilty of his goals, albeit in the Turkish SuperLig, would suggest he's not as bad as some are making him out...

Agree. I always thought he looked quite promising for Palace. I wouldn't mind signing him at all.

i think he is a much improved player than the lad who went to Palace - I watched him the other week and never realised it was the same player. Strong running all left foot and not bad in the air we have signed worse players
