Thank you Dinpomp. I'm not sure if it's the translation, but that seems to be saying that we wanted to sign him for 13-15m but that would be dependent on him playing 50% of matches this year. Then he seems to say that either he agreed with that or that it was his demand in the first place.

Do you think that's a correct reading of what he said?

So staying there was the better career move? Something not right, surely he could of signed and been moved to another club.

He makes a point of saying Halilovic doesn't get any more money if he does play 50% of the games, which would lead to us signing him. Why would he? It's a ****ing transfer fee

I reckon the media had it spot on and his dad's a greedy bastard.

Ouch, 3-0 down at half time, and Halilovic had a chance at the start of the half, but all Morocco after that.

He made the point because in this thread alone people have had a go at the Dad for demanding 1.2m when in fact he didn't demand anything but game time for his son. He says he wanted reassurances that Halilovic wouldn't be frozen out the Dinamo team for the year between us agreeing a deal and him actually coming here. Sounds very reasonable to me. Game time in 50% of matches isn't an unrealistic demand considering he was playing most games at the time when the link began.

Halilovic, Tottenham but insists the father says no: the details

Article published Monday, October 21, 2013 at 18:23 -

And 'considered the new phenomenon of Croatian football, 17 years and the profile to future champion. It's called Halilovic, you probably already know, I have talked often here. His card is the Dinamo Zagreb, with whom he signed a minor by a three-year contract (with two-year option), which will end in June, when he turns 18. That's why the Dinamo in a hurry to sell it and already last summer his transfer to Tottenham had been very close. It spurs insist: Ten days ago, new meetings between President Levy and the emissaries of the club. Three meetings in three different cities, a written offer of 20 million for the four-Dinamo Zagabri and 1.5 per season for Halilovic. But the father said no. It's called Sejad, is a former Croatian footballer and wants to technical safeguards (not just economic) for the child. Who now plays with less continuity in the first team of Dinamo. At this point, the family Halilovic want to decide without haste, in order to optimize in June the new overlap is possible to find a club that decides to grant him presences and trust. According to rumors, in fact, Halilovic would say yes to Tottenham in case assured on a contract, a defined number of admissions from 45 minutes each.

P.S. Halilovic (and Croatia as a whole) very disappointing in these first two U17 World Cup matches. He's shown glimpses, but also selfish play and an ego.

I put most of the blame on Croatia's coach who has somehow managed to make a complete mess of a very talented generation of footballers. Embarrassing "tactics."

Word gets out quick. A lot of media outlets now reporting the story (which generated from Di Marzio just minutes ago).

So...do you think it will happen or not?

I really hope it does...

Who knows. But Di Marzio is as good a source as any (insofar as football rumours go). But even he's not saying it's going to happen, just that there have been new talks, a new written offer, and that it may happen. Still some obstacles to overcome (mainly, convincing the father).

Halilovic is one of the most frustrating figures in Croatian football. Many are fed up with the hype, with him being selected for the senior NT, and basically his constant presence in the media (not his doing, mind you). He's also rubbing a lot of people the wrong way with his on field play/attitude. That said, he isn't any less of a talent and that's where some peoples' judgment gets blurred. He's still a top, top talent. But he needs to get his act together. The sooner, the better.

Today was the first time Ive seen him play a full match. And you can tell he was a class above, personally. His ball control and dribbling were very good and has decent pace, but his final ball was lacking today. Would be great for us, but I do see a sense of selfishness but coudl be due to frustration or just because he genuinely thought he could go it alone. Tbf he wasnt the only selfish player out there.

Hmmm. Have to admit that, for all his talent, the whole situation looks a little troubling.

1) he's in a position where we have a bunch of good young players that we should arguably try and bed in
2) he's light weight, which while not an issue, isn't ideal
3) he's a lot of money for what is only potential really
4) If we're going to have his dad wining every time he's not in the team it's hardly ideal

I have no idea how good he is, but 17 year olds rarely fulfil the potential they promise when there's so much praise and focus on them from a young age. I'm relaxed about this one.

Seems like a very sensible post ^^^ to me. He may be the next best thing but evidence so far is very scant and he appears to bring a lot of 'baggage' with him. On the other hand we must believe in him with all the times we have tried to tie the deal up. I'm confused now :(

Sky Sports understands Tottenham Hotspur are no longer interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb teenager Alen Halilovic.

Speculation has claimed that Spurs are closing in on the capture of the 17-year-old, who has already made three appearances for Croatia.

Spurs were interested in Halilovic during the summer after being linked with a double swoop for the midfielder and his former team-mate Tin Jedvaj.

Defender Jedvaj ultimately joined Serie A leaders Roma and it is understood that Spurs are not planning a fresh attempt to sign Halilovic.

The youngster, who has been compared to former Spurs midfielder Luka Modric, is out of contract at Dinamo at the end of the season and would reportedly cost £12million.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas significantly strengthened his midfield options during the transfer window after signing the likes of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Christian Eriksen and Nacer Chadli.

Villas-Boas has also seen Brazilian midfielder Sandro return to fitness and Andros Townsend emerge as a first-team regular following the winger's impressive loan spell at Queens Park Rangers last season.
