The Belgium international defender continues to be linked with a summer move away from north London, but he claims to be fully committed to Spurs.

I can see him staying then going back to Ajax on a free TBH.

I think loads of teams have come in for him but he's constantly turned them down, holding out for a big signing on fee next year for a massive pay day I reckon

Yeah that's where I am, no way a player of his quality, available for peanuts hasn't had offers.

He has a plan and is not shifting. He said he would honor his contract and leave for free, and I can honor that decision

I hope so. I'd rather keep him for 12 months and lose him for free next season than get 25 mil this season. I know Levy would probably disagree.

Gives Sanchez 12 months, develop Foyth, maybe give Dier some time there too.....

This. I feel he's boxed himself in now. By rejecting our improved terms, he has settled for lower wages in the last couple of seasons and banked on a huge signing on fee and wages when his release clause was activated or as a free agent next year.

If noone comes in with an acceptable wage offer for him, I think we would be content to keep him for a season and lose him on a free. Unlike Eriksen. He's worth £25m to us this season IMO.

I disagree, Toby is a excellent defender and when he is paired with Verts it is a excellent combination. I like Sanchez but he needs another season as back up, Foyth also but he is more versatile and play anywhere in the back four.

I don't think so. It's better for him NOT to spend 60 million, than to get 13 million in profit at this point. I think he understands this.

Got given the armband against Juve...Poch thinks about things so much it surely can’t have been an arbitrary matter of being the most senior player by age or service. It’s a sign of trust in some way. And whoever he’s ultimately playing for a last payday with, his self interests there also align with ours this season.

Totally agree, although foyth is as versatile as verts & Toby as they can also play full back but no where as experienced obviously.

Just a thought that sprung to mind t'other day when hearing of tripps going & Rose staying at home to look for a new club is that Poch may be looking at playing 3 at the back which goes hand in hand with his statement of changing our formation this season. The only experienced fb left would be Davies who also covers cb & the inexperienced walker Peters. What do you guys think?

I'd never try and 2nd guess Poch but i just can't see us changing to a back 3 for the simple reason that if you look at the midfielders and attacking players we have and are about to buy, then realise that absolute guaranteed starters of that group have to be Winks (new contract), NDombele (record signing), GLC (2nd record signing), Kane and almost certainly Son. With a back 3 you've only got 1 more space to play either Dele or Eriksen, and that's before you even start to consider Sissoko, Moura and Lamela etc.

Think he'll switch to it at times during the season and play multiple formations including a back 3.

I don't care about this pretence of professional loyalty. Ship him out and bring onboard a player that's committed for longer than the next financial bonus day.

Serves me right for posting while rushing to go out, completely got my maths wrong !

Obviously a back 3 leaves only 5 outfield spaces, which will almost certainly be filled by NDombele, Winks, Kane, Son and GLC. There is no possible way both Eriksen and Dele are consistently on the bench (or Son consistently on the bench if you decided to use Kane and Dele or Kane and Erisken). So the numbers just don't fit, hence no way we play a back 3 as a prefered starting option (note: obviously it might be used in certain games, but assuming everyone is available, then it can't possibly be the 'new' formation of choice).
