Woolwich drew 1-1 with Barnet. Pre season results usually mean sweet FA. We beat Roma 5-0 and then got something like 2 points from 8 games i think it was.....

Just got back after taking my boy to his first football game.

To be honest, him shouting that he could score was about the highlight of the evening. He is only 3!!

Seemed like most of the players were annoyed to be there, but funny watching Bostock shouting at Taraabt for not passing the ball, he looked pretty angry a few times!!

Rose took his goal well though, nice ball from the new lad.

Aldershot aren't a bad side really, but it was pretty woeful from a spurs xi.
Young lad called Tom Carrol, looked about 11 years old, got on,

Bless him!

He didn't even seem interested tonight.

Tell you what though, we could do with another goalkeeper in the squad, Alnwick was a bit pony, although in his defense (no pun intended), the four in front weren't hav ing a good evening!

That was Bostock, probably our best player, surprisingly strong actually, thought he was a tiny player!

According to the press when we signed him, Bostock's about 6'1" or so. He looked pretty tall & strong in the UEFA cup last season, anyhoo...

What this suggests is that while we are rightly excited by the academy and potential excellence of our young players, the fact is that genuine competitive league football is better, or at least tougher, than the standards that they have been playing at.

Which in turn means that the decision firstly to only play specifically arranged reserve friendlies, as opposed to entering the league looks a good one.

Likewise, I'm increasingly glad that we will be sending out lots of them on loan. Surely playing for a side such as Aldershot themselves would improve, say, Bostock, Parrett, Cox, etc, more than a years worth of training ground exercises.

Just thinking. You know we've never won a game with Naughton in the side!!

I can feel another Bale-esque jinx coming on.

After seeing last night, I'm not sure Bbostock would gain anything from playing with the likes of Aldershot, he was leagues above anone else on the pitch last night, touch, awareness, strength etc etc.

Just didn't have the team around him to do anything major, and if Taraabt could actually pass quickly, then it could have been a better score, but when we were on the break, Tarrabt, would get the ball, do a step over, stop, he'd be surrounded by two or three Shot players, and either lose the ball trying to get out of the pickle, or send a bad pass.

Although on 3 occassions I remember, he did pass the ball really well, few through balls and a pass across the pitch, so I know he has the awreness, but I really can't understand why he doesn't play the ball that's screaming out to him to make...

Defense was pretty shoddy, their goals came from 3 attempts pretty much, first a nice play along the left wing, pulled back, into bottom corner.
Second was a ball across the goal mouth, Alnwick kinda scrambling, looked a bit lost, and the fella managed to tuck the ball in with a almost bicycle kick.

3rd was a header that our defenders couldn't get from the right hand side.

Good to know, Shanks. Cheers.

Although, I guess I meant the principle. The actual mechanism of going out on loan (whether to Aldershot, Bury, Charlton or Derby) doing them more good than being stuck on the training ground with occasional matches against other youngsters and older, half-injured players.
