Tottenham's Ben Davies has revealed he was 'crippled with pain' as he helped his side reach the Champions League final last season. Davies played 48 times for Spurs and Wales last year but it's only now that he's untroubled by injury.

Ben Davies had a groin operation shortly after the Champions League Cup Final, though in public he'd made little of injury or needing an operation, as far as I recall. But in the context of a squad whose leading players had little pre-season to speak of, had injuries and exhaustion from the World Cup, and a long season before all that, and then an early start to the Premier League season in August 2018, Ben Davies gamely played on or made himself available for selection. The behaviour of a stalwart of the squad, the mentality of a leader, and acknowledged at the weekend when he was made Captain of Spurs for the match at Everton.
